Hi. After great thought I have decided to sell my antique cut pear and go in a new direction. As some of you know, yellow is my favorite color. I purchased the yellow sapphire from Bron and have been trying to talk myself out of this but the heart wants. But to combine yellow and diamond was a bit budget stretching for me. What are your thoughts on the yellow oval diamond listed on LT? The owner says it has a light brown secondary with even color and good sparkle and no bowtie. She feels that DK's photos are a better representation of the color than the Leibish photos.

The owner suggested that I start a thread on PS. There is no ASET available for this diamond.
Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions.

.

You would need two as sides for the sapphire, of course ...

Are you selling/did you sell the antique pear ring in your avatar?

I think the yellow diamond is gorgeous, but it is 7x5 and I wonder and worry how much you would have to spend to set it the way you want.

I am deciding if it is worth destroying the setting to send it to GIA(my pear) or sell it as is. I have always felt that the pear was too big and a yellow oval set in halo was my dream ring. Whatever I buy will be a smaller ring as i feel more comfortable with a smaller stone.

Your pear ring is truly stunning and I will be sorry to see that setting destroyed. Maybe try consignment for 6 months or so before you make that decision?

I will tell you to get and wear what makes you happy. that said, thats a beautiful pear. If you're not really wearing it, then maybe its time for a switch over to something you will wear.

Unfortunately if you send to GIA, that setting will go for scrap and you won't get much for it. Its not my call to make but the hard reality of the thing. Does it have a certificate at all? (the pear).

Pears don't really go by numbers anyway, and tend to go by more visual beauty, but if you're sure you'd get a bit more because of a higher color grade, by all means send to GIA. otherwise might be best to leave as is, have a good independent appraiser look at it and see if you get any bites as a whole ring.

It's such a unique and beautiful setting that I'd be sad if it gets destroyed.

I’d been eyeing that oval but i don’t think it’s in my SO’s budget. So i certainly can’t talk you out of it :) Its very pretty. But so is your existing pear based on your avatar.

75171991-4E59-4B07-97A9-A51C122BEDDB.jpeg I think you should set the yellow sapphire first. This setting from Ivy and Rose would need to be made to fit the 8mm sapphire but shouldn’t be much more expensive.
That might satisfy your urge for yellow and diamonds.
I certainly wouldn’t send your beautiful pear diamond off for grading if they have to destroy the setting. I’d just get a report done in the setting, not great, but better than nothing and sell as a complete piece.
I would first wait until you see if the sapphire when set is enough, you don’t want to regret selling your lovely pear diamond ring.

Thank you everyone for all the advice regarding my pear. I do have an EGL. It used to be pretty common to have an EGL for old cuts.
Bron you are right about setting the sapphire. Maybe that will take care of the yellow desire.

@princessandthepear, I am not an expert but that FIY oval looks delish!!!! I always lust over FIY or FVY since most of them look very good with white background, no idea how they look on my skintone. FLY and FY just don't work on me.

I think it looks great. I “visit” it myself but I’m on s buying break after my diamond bangle and pad sapphire.
