Hi,

I am currently working on a feasibility study through CPAU: www.cpau.org.af an Afghan research organisation to map out the way local mines (mainly gemstones) are operated. I need people and companies for technical expertise and also potential interest in these locally owned mines (majority of small mines are locally owned) in the future. The outputs will be a feasibility study and also a database of locally mapped mines and their outputs etc.

Looking forwards to your messages and help!

Hi and welcome to the site. Its not, unfortunately, clear to me what specifically you are asking. Can you describe again what you are looking for and how we can help? :))

Kanishka - this is a consumer forum so it's probably not what you're looking for. There is another forum and if you search for something like online gemmology forum in google I'm sure you'll find it. Lots of vendors and lapidarists post on there. They will have the most experience of mines/who owns them etc.

Kanishka,

I was in ASMED in Kabul in 2010-2011 for gemstone cutting and basic gemology training of Afghan jewelry artists.

Send me an email through my website, I can connect you with some mine owners and let you know how they mine. Most are small artisanal mining using old munitions left from the Soviets. However, there is a lot of searching going on on how to improve the mining area such as using GPR to spot pockets, as well as using more mechanized machinery, or dexpan to crack the host rocks. My website is in my signature and you can contact me that way.

So that you don't need to search, Jim's website is Flawless facets. HTH.
