Allycat and other milgrained prong set halo ring owners - pls help

I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong thread but I'm hoping you ladies can help me . I'm planning to have Quest make me a three sided pave halo ring without the metal bezel immediately around the stone; rather prong set.
I really can't decide whether I want milgraining on the inside of the halo, next to the stone. I really love Leon's rings and how delicate they are and it APPEARS as if the halo rings on his site (and Reena's Allycat) that have the milgraining on the outside of the halo do not have any border on the inside of the halo but I can't find any photos that show this detail. I really want a delicate ring without much excess metal but will it look strange without the milgraining? If anyone of have this type of ring or have pictures showing this detail, that would be great! Thanks!!

ETA: I just looked at the ring with halo thread and I can see some with the milgraining but some ( i think) without..any opinions on whether I should or not would be helpful..

There are lots of rings with miligraining on the inside...take a look here at www.danielk.net or even the Tiffany Legacy. Miligraining on my ring is very very delicate..I seriously have to hold the ring close about 4 inches to really see the detail.

Honestly, you might not even miss the miligraining because it''s so delicate. Originally, I thought I wanted miligraining on the inside but I couldn''t imagine it any other way now. But with prong set...I think miligraining would look better...JMHO though

So...you going to post pics of the cushion?!

That one does look like milgraining on the inside right?

They are both pretty but I think I prefer how this halo looks. Does this one have milgraining? I can''t tell.

I have milgrain on the inside and had to look very closely to see it, but its there.

Both those rings you posted have miligraining...I had to strain to see but you can tell from the sides very nice though!

Yes, it appears to, Slammie. it is very tiny though. I don''t think that you would be able to even notice the milgraining on that second one at a distance.

Actually I don''t have a border around my stone. As a matter of fact, it''s really cool because I can peek under my diamond if I tilt my ring. There''s just almost a sliver of room but not quite an airline.

So I think I can actually help you.

See my ring is prong set, and it has no airline (a space between the stone and the halo, so I have no miligrain on the inside, right next to the stone) because the diamond ends right on where the halo starts.

Cons of this: Well the stone looks smaller, and MANY people have mistaken my ring for a cluster ring (i.e. a bunch of small diamonds in a huge circle)

because the center diamond is not clearly delinated from the halo.

Now, Lovey, also prong set has a an airline, and the inside of her halo (near the stone) has the miligrain.

I saw Cute''s Leon octagonal halo (with airline) in real life and I have to admit it was beautiful, gorgeous, and the stone looked massive.

I have to admit, I felt totally useless today, and now I feel like I''ve contributed something.

I have miligrain on my halo and you do have to look very very close to see it but it does make a difference. Mine is bezel set I love not having prongs to snag stuff on... my miligrain is just around my center stone and the outside of my halo is smooth. It gives a halo a nice contrast.

I really appreciate your feedback but now you''ve got me thinking..airline? I think Leon does a great airline but others I have seen, the gap is too big.. I don''t care for that. So if you had to do it all over, would you do the milgraining? and maybe the airline?

Hmmm...you guys got me thinking against the no border now. I told Pete no border or milgrain but now I''m thinking maybe I should but have it really thin. Arrghh..it''s so hard to decide..plus I''m driving Pete (quest) mad with all questions already!! Since my stone wont'' be that big, maybe it would help it look bigger.

I think it''s all personal preference. Since milgrain can be added after the ring is completed (I think), maybe you could have it made without milgrain first, and see if you like the look.

This one is prong-set, minimal airline and no milgrain on the inner side of the halo.

Slammie: Well Miligrain can''t be added on my ring now completed. The diamond actually overlaps the halo, so there would be no use.

If I could do it all over again? I would have Leon do an airline on my ring. I''ve had a jeweler tell me it was a cluster ring, my friends squinting to see how big the center is...people thinking it could be a 0.75 ct etc. The way my ring is done, there is a really high emphasis on "the ring" and not on the "stone"...I could have gotten a much smaller stone for the same effect.

I would definitely do miligrain again, because on my ring it''s SO SMALL that you can''t see a thing, there''s no extra metal to speak of. Really not, the miligrain on the outside of the halo is hoestly the thickenss of a post-it note (it looks monstrous in pics) but it''s a sliver.On the halo, it''s unoticeable. It''s ALOT less metal then the tiny prongs used to hold the melee on the halo in place.

So to summerize because it''s a novel

, I would basically get Lovey''s ring in an EXACT replica (in a heartbeat). Airline, miligrain on the inside....

Nonthing to add as far as milgrane is concerned. Either way, it''s going to look great. My ring has no milgrane at all, just a very sliver-thin border of smooth metal on all side. Another PS member had a ring simillar to mine, only with the milgrane and an airline, and I did not want to copy exactly so I went with the smooth metal and a few other modifications.

Ally, I had someone look at my ring recently (a cashier at the hardware store) and think it was a cluster too.

Then she looked closer and realized it was a single stone with small stones in the halo. I think she thought it was fake by the way she commented. It''s not a nice feeling.

Another Quest ring to oogle -- Yay!!!! Can''t wait to see it.

It''s not entirely ready yet. Just like slammie, I wasn''t sure whether to have milgrain inside the halo. I thought I wanted it, then it was made without and Chris said don''t change it after she saw the ring. So I started having second thoughts, but Leon put in the milgrain per my earlier request, so it''s not exactly like this photo any more.

I just thought I''d post to show slammie how an airline without milgrainning might look.

Well I can''t help you with a halo ring, as I don''t have one, but I am curoius how working with Quest is going? I am thinking about using them to make a butterfly ring for me.

DiamondLil: I`ve gotten kind of obsessed. I was helping my friend with e-ring selection, and he had me try on a 1 carat. In any case, the saleslady said "1 carat is very big, very expensive and unaffordable to most " She meant me I think

well my friend got miffed and he was holding my ring and showed it to her saying "Well this is 1.3 carats" and she looked at it and said "1.3 in tiny diamonds is not NEARLY the same price as a 1 carat solitaire." So SLAMMIE

(don`t want to hijack) but I`m totally sold on airlines now, because the diamond is clearly deliniated. So no cluster ring remarks.

Diamondil, thank you for your thoughts..I was hoping you could chime in because I know quest made that beautiful ring for you and in fact I sent your pic to them as an example of no milgrain . By the way, I prefer yours to the "one who shall not be named" because the airline on hers is too big of a gap for me. I prefer it to be really minimal.
Ally, oohhhh you bad girl..now I think I want an airline too, but a really thin one. But, it''s so hard to find pics of cushion halo with this airline..in fact I haven''t seen one...if only i had photoshop or something. I received the cushion yesterday and I really love how firey it is. BUT, I wish it was a little bigger so you got me thinking of an airline now. Oh what to do??? I can''t decide!! arghhhh!!
Kayla!! How''s your little one doing? I''m going with quest this time because when I saw Kaleigh''s ring I fell in love with it and thought quest did a fantastic job so I thought I''d work with them this time.

Funny thing is, I thought that having the milgrain would make the stone look smaller because it would outline where the stone starts, but I guess perhaps that''s not the case.

Ally, forgot to add that there is NO way that your stone looks like a 1 carat. It looks huge on your finger and I don''t understand how you get comments like that when it looks like a 3 carat monster on your little finger!

I really didn''t want prongs even ones that wouldn''t cover up the arrows so the only option was bezel set. I think whatever you decide will be great..besides I think people who think are rings are ''cluster rings'' are blind and/or ignorant!

I vote airline. I think it will give you just that bit of delineation that you need. That''s one of the reasons I love the prong set halo. I didn''t want a bezel around the diamond and I really love the way it sits up just a bit from the ring. It gives that delineation that it''s not a cluster of small diamonds.

slammie you could always ask what he suggests come to think of it...he really does have a great eye for jewelry design.

I was looking at my ring and I think another way that the solitare stands out is that my halo is actually angled down..so when I look at the side profile I see the halo and then the crown of the diamond. Don''t know if I''m going to complicate things more but thats my 2c!
