I would love to get other's opinions on whether or not I should seriously consider a reset. A bit of back story...
I had 100% involvement in my engagement ring. I picked out the stone. I designed it. Everything. At the time, I wasn't super knowledgeable about jewelry. I'm still not, but at that time, I hadn't really seen anything beyond the classics - solitaries, three-stones, and halos in a plain or pave shank. I really wanted something different and went with a halo with marquise shaped "leaves" on the shank. I hadn't seen anything like it at the time, and I really felt it was different and unique.
Now, I've been on PS for about a year and a half now, and I've seen all kinds of beautiful rings. I am particularly drawn to interesting and unique halos. When I was designing my ring, I didn't even know there could be any other type of halo and wouldn't have even known to ask. Now, I really really wish I had a more unique halo on my e-ring.
I just got married in October and got engaged in September 2015, so I've only been wearing the ring for a little over a year. It's not a long time, but I am considering a reset in order to get that interesting halo that I really would love. I would still want my marquise shaped leaves shank, but I would want a different halo. I'm concerned though because my stone is not big - its dimensions are 6.8mm x 4.17mm x 2.95mm - and I don't want a halo to overwhelm my stone. My current e-ring is this:
My inspiration halos are this:
My question is, with the size of my stone, do you think the type of halo I would want would be possible (without overwhelming the stone) or would it look stupid?
I haven't brought up any of this with my husband yet. If I decide I actually want to do this, I'm a bit nervous - not sure if he'll be OK with it or offended...I feel like it could go either way. I'm also a bit conflicted because I feel like just over a year is really too short of a time period to already be thinking about a reset, and I'm not actually a reset type of person. I place enormous sentimental value on things, and a reset feels a bit "disloyal" to me. I do love my e-ring as is. I just wish I had known different types of halos were even an option when I designed it!
