I was thinking about keeping it for something else since it appears it will be difficult to get a refund from the seller. I do really love the setting. Recently I had bought an amethyst that I dropped and chipped. I still really want one since purple is my favorite color. I found on at odysseygems. need to take the setting to a jeweler and see if it will fit this stone. This one is 10x10 but I don't know about the depth. I asked to have my setting made for an 8mm deep stone. I have no confidence that is the true measurement. What do you think of this stone?

How deep is your setting since that is a rather deep stone.

Holy crack monkey that is a deep stone! I thought TL might be exaggerating, but yeah, even for an asscher, that sucker is deep!

I asked to have it made to hold a 8mm deep stone but I will take it to a jeweler to see how deep of a stone the setting will hold

Hi cemrm!

The asshcer has a high crown (almost a third of the total depth) It could just be about almost 6.5mm deep pavilion?

I am so glad you all can educate me. I guess I figured since my 9x9mm stone from Gene is 8mm deep it wasn't too odd that a 10x10mm would be 9mm deep. But I am hearing now that is really deep. Thanks for always educating me. PS is great

Hmmm is a high crown ok? Opinions please

A high crown is probably all right because what’s really holding the stone down in the setting is the seat which is a notch cut out in the prongs to hold the girdle of the stone. There is no need for a lot of metal to cover over the crown area. In this case, the width is almost equal to the depth due to the lower RI needed for an amethyst to reflect light back to the eye in addition to the depth of an asscher cut. I’m not sure how much of the depth is in the crown versus the pavilion though and would not want to second guess that.

I just placed the 8mm deep asscher back into the setting to look at the depth. It does appear to have some more room that would accomodate a deeper stone. I assume a jeweler can tell me if I take in the setting? I will try to break away over lunch

I have been watching that stone myself. I hope you get it so I won't be tempted!

I was afraid the color might be darker in person, given all the info I have seen regarding asschers being good for lighter stones. If you get it, I look forward to seeing how it turns out.
