Hi all
It seems so easy to use Amazon.
Thank goodness, the jewelry there isn't a "threat" to legit sellers of fine jewelry. Loop troup, and other places thrive.
I like vintage guitars, and it's pretty easy to find them from legit local sellers advertising on sites like "reverb".

What about things like .....every day stuff from Amazon...
Does anyone know of a resource for finding independent merchants for a variety of household items?
Mr Googlie is definitely owned/ dominated by gazillionaires......don't know if there's that much help there....
I'd love to find ways of avoiding Amazon at this point.....

You aren’t alone with wanting to try to avoid Amazon @Rockdiamond. My DH and i were talking about this today.

Walmart is just as evil in its own way but at least walmart+ for getting groceries is better than anything amazon offers.
Walmart is often cheaper than amazon on most things.
Walmart+ is also cheaper than prime to join.

There are no true local grocery stores left here.

For certain household items I like IKEA.
Second Costco and Aldi.

I resisted being a Prime member for Amazon for ages, however, it pays to be a Prime member for the fast next day deliveries.

I also recently discovered Prime Video when I was in Vancouver with no TV for over a month!

I used to use eBay a lot, however, deliveries took longer than using Amazon Prime.

DK :))

There aren't a lot of independent merchants left near me. But there are some smaller, regional, chain type stores and grocery stores that sell some of the everyday items. You can avoid the big chain stores and amazon if you're willing to do more driving around. But not if you want to order for delivery for anything other than groceries.

I find, although I try to avoid ordering from Amazon, that I like what I like, and when it's not available any more in local stores, sometimes Amazon is the best option.

I do try to order directly from merchants, but that only works for things I want enough of. Nobody wants to send me my favorite pot scrubbers that I used to get at the store that closed down for $3. It's just not cost effective for their business model.

I use Amazon all the time, fast shipping, easy returns.

Damn Amazon. I try so hard not to use them, but since they've managed to put small retailers out of business, there are few alternatives.

I'm trying to use them less too. What I'm finding is that I'm just buying less stuff that I probably don't really need. If it's something that I really need I can find it somewhere local and drive to pick it up.

There are still plenty of independent hardware and houseware stores in NYC, and a number of grocery stores.
