Am I being too picky on prongs?

Hi all! It’s been a loooooong time, but I’m back with a gorgeous upgraded engagement ring :kiss2: But I’m trying to figure out if I’m being too picky about the prongs!

The vendor has said there is no durability issues, however they are willing to make adjustments if it makes me feel better. I don’t want to part with my beautiful new ring, nor do I want to be *that* customer who is nitpicking things. So I was hoping to get some advice from you all.

I first noticed that a prong is slightly crooked. When I took out my loupe to see if I was just seeing things, I found another two prongs with excess metal. I can’t see the excess metal with my eyes, so I agree that’s not a big issue nor will it affect durability. I can see the crooked prong with my eyes, but again I agree not a durability issue and so I don’t think I’d bother sending in my ring to correct either of those issues.

However, then I noticed the crooked prong isn’t fully clamped down on the diamond. Another prong also appears wonky (yeah I know, a real technical term haha). Again I’m told these prongs being lifted do not affect durability, but this is where I’m struggling. Is it really not an issue to have prongs not fully touching the top of the diamond? Hopefully you can see what I’m talking about in this photo:

So that’s my long rambling story. Am I being too picky?

Not too picky at all. The lifted prongs can catch on things and lift even more, eventually causing the diamond to come loose. I would ask to get all the issues fixed.

Not too picky. These prongs need to be fixed! But it’s easily resolvable!

I don’t feel that’s being too picky to not want that lifted/hooked prong.

Nope, not too picky. The lifted prong needs fixing, and the crooked one would drive me batty.

Thank you all. I had been expecting my vendor to be like “oh my goodness we are so sorry we let these issues slip by!” So when that wasn’t their response, I just needed to double check my gut reaction. Bc I don’t want to be unreasonable!

Not too picky at all and that one prong that is askew would drive me crazy!

It looks like the vendor does not seem to want to admit it was their sloppy job. Insist on having the prongs fixed. They need it!

Definitely get the prongs fixed! Those imperfections would bug me and I’d push them to fix it.

Well they explicitly told me the lifted prongs are normal, but bc they are causing me to be concerned, they offered to fix them. That’s the part that confused me, bc I thought lifted prongs were a no no ;-) Oh well, they have offered to fix everything, so while I’m disappointed that I have to ship the ring back, I know it’s a minor inconvenience and appreciate their offer. Can’t wait to post it on SMTR!

Nope, you send that right back for the adjustments. That's not picky, that's good sense and will mitigate problems with prong issues later. Prongs not seated well/burnished or polished properly are a setter's issue in this case and not the same thing as usage lifted prongs. I'm glad you caught that.
