Hello all,

I am currently in the market for a ring for my girlfriend. I am hoping to find an estate/antique white gold ring as that is something she loves. I would prefer to find the ring without the stone and then choose the stone. (IF you have any suggestions for finding the ring, please do share.)

But for the stone - I am looking for a green stone - have been looking at saphires. I have found the site thenaturalsaphirecompany - Does anyone have experience with them?

My other question is a realilse saphire''s are more dense than diamonds so I have no idea what a 2, 3, 4 or 5 carat stone looks like. She has small hands and fingers so I wouldn''t want something too big. (We also now live in the UK where most people do not seem to have large stone engagement rings.)

I am also curious about Tsavorite. I found lapigems website which has a number of them.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Green sapphires generally does not appear vivid and bright due to having a grayish undertone. I would recommend a tsavorite over a green sapphire.

As for your search, I recommend that you do the opposite. Get the stone first then the setting. This is because finding the right gemstone is already difficult and I would rather not add another size and shape constraint to your search. You have to consider the purity of hue, saturation and tone, clarity and cut and size, etc. Trust me, the setting is the easy part.

The physical dimension of the stone can vary by cutting and specific gravity index of the stone. It is best to have some idea of the measurement in mm of what you are aiming for.

I agree with this; a lot of factors can influence the size of the finished stone, so it''s best to think about milimeter size that you''d be OK with (a 1 ct round diamond is about 6.5 mm).

In terms of green, if she likes lighter shades sapphires are a good choice, but if she''d prefer something with a deeper, richer green (a.k.a. beer bottle green

), tsavorites are a better idea.

Some additional info like your approximate budget would be helpful too.
