So I thought we had finally decided to register at Bed Bath & Beyond, Crate & Barrel, and Macy''s. The problem with Macy''s though, is that there aren''t currently any Macy''s locations in Michigan, where my family lives. However, Marshall Fields locations will all be turning into Macy''s about 2 weeks before our wedding. It would be really convenient if it were happening a little earlier, but as it is it seems like it might present some difficulties.

So today, I was sitting here thinking about how annoying it is that I can''t just get ANY breadmaker/crockpot/mixer that I want, and then it occurred to me that I could, if I registered on Amazon instead of Macy''s.

Has anyone done this? Does it seem tacky? I mean, it would limit the options for people who just want to go out and buy a gift from an actual store, but who does that anymore? And stuff on Amazon is often cheaper with free shipping if you spend more than $25. Any good or bad experiences with Amazon registries?
Thanks.

Hi saturn - we are registered at amazon, but no one has bought us anything off that registry yet, most of the stuff has been from crate & barrel and macys... but we will see, I''ll update you!

I just wanted to give my opinion on registering on Amazon: I don''t see any problem with it, nor do I think it''s tacky. Times, they are a-changing...some of your more computer-literate guests may find it most convenient to be able to order online without having to visit a store and deal with traffic, maul atmosphere, etc. I think if you limit your registry to a few things that you would be very happy to have but don''t NEED right away you will have some luck. If you put items on the amazon registry that you''re kind of counting on, it may be a different story.

sorry that i don''t have any specific advice about amazon''s registry. We''re at C&B & BB&B.

but, I don''t think you should worry about it looking tacky. most people are now buying wedding gifts online. It''s soooo much easier! I think it''s great that you''re giving your guests a mix of stores to choose from, in case they are not comfortable with an online purchase.

another e-tailer to think about is chef''s catalog. they''ve got a ton of specialized stuff!

hmm, I didn''t know that amazon had a registry. Nice though- since they have free shipping on only $25! Save your guests a little money

I think it''s fine as long as you are registered at B&M stores too so people can go that route if they prefer.

The only thing I have on an amazon registry is our silverware.. And guess what.. its HALF the price of the retail price in a dept. store, and $10 less a place setting than buying it directly off the manufacturers site.. I don''t think I will send out in my shower invites that we registered there.. cuz its kind of silly, but I made it and told my mom and stuff so that if any one wants to get flatware.. they can get it there instead of paying twice as much as a dept. store!

Awww MelissaSue, I don''t think you should feel at all embarrassed about registering online at amazone for flatware and including that with your other registry "hints" in the bridal shower invites or however you are choosing to do it, you never know, some guests may be more inclined to shop online! Maybe you can trust your momma to spread the news by word of mouth, I guess. I know even after 2.5 years we are still short about 6 flatware settings to go with our china, we received the serving pieces and two sets of flatware but I recently told DH that we are going to either have to start asking for it for Christmas/birthday gifts (for me) or buy it ourselves before the pattern becomes obsolete! I hate the thought of that (pattern going bye bye) but it was one of the more important things to me on our registry because we had lived together and had most of what we actually needed on a day-to-day basis, and I wanted to receive gifts that we wouldn''t normally buy for ourselves.

I don''t know if your silverware/flatware is something you mean to use on special occasions or everyday use, but if I were you and I really wanted it, I would mention to your mom that you would like to have the flatware more than some of your other registry items, if possible. Just my .02.

It is an everyday set.. my FMIL already bought me 8 place settings for my birthday/christmas.... but I''d really like at least 12.. the more the better, really..I just think its silly because that is the ONLY thing on the whole registry! LOL! Maybe if I add other stuff to it I could add it to the shower invites..

I think you have a good idea going there...maybe you could take a look at your other registries and add to the amazon one what you don''t have on the others, i.e. table linens, or chargers, or other fun stuff...I think it''s smart of you to want more than 8 settings of everyday flatware also. We started out with just my Oneida settings, I think I had about 8, and I had to go buy a new set from Kohl''s (discount store, but great kitchen dept. based in midwest) this past spring. DH has a way of sneaking forks, knives, and spoons from our drawer in the kitchen into his camping trips or football tailgaiting parties, and then somehow they never make it back!

I know it seems like you may not get the items from your amazon registry, but I think you will find that last minute gift buyers will sometimes call the hostess of your shower and ask what is still needed...maybe whoever is hosting yours could tell people about your amazon registry???

We registered at amazon.com, mostly for books/CDs/DVDs, but a few kitchen items that we couldn''t find elsewhere, too. Not many of our guests actually bouqht from it, but a few did. We didn''t have any problems. If you have questions, let me know.

I think it would depend on how computer-savvy your guests are. Most of ours bought from BB&B, with our Sears registry coming in second. Overall, not many bought online from any of the sites.

Are there Kohl''s stores in Michigan? They have a decent selection of kitchen stuff (online & in-store), but I don''t know anyone personally who''s used them for a registry. Maybe an idea?

Go for it. My brother did it for his wedding in June, and I plan to do it for mine. They have such a wide selection and great prices, and are so widely accepted that I don''t think there''s any issue with it.
