Recently I came home from Tucson with a 2.5 carat cushion cut Mahenge garnet (posted in another thread). My plan was to set it in a three stone ring with pear or trillion cut sapphires/tourmalines in a pale yellow or green. Just barely started looking at matched pairs, and a local jeweler gave a great price on crafting the ring. Thought I had my project in motion.
And then we came into possession of a yellow gold setting that needs an 8mm round stone! This has my wheels turning. Originally had in mind a sparkly bright blue stone (unheated tanzanite, London blue topaz, blue zircon), or a lavender amethyst. Maybe even a light green tourmaline or one that has light pink/yellow together. Love spinels, but doubt we can find a well cut round within our budget. Its a very simple solitaire setting, bypass design with no diamonds, the stone has to be a standout. If only we had found this setting before leaving the Tucson show!
So now I'm trying to decide which project to take on first. Been surfing through the recommended gemstone vendors here, and have found a few things that jump out. With the Mahenge project coming up, prefer to stay around a few hundred for this round stone, would love to hear thoughts and ideas.
