two interesting articles:
''Perhaps of even greater concern is what the other departments within the U.S. government are doing to secure and defend America''s interests. What is the Department of Commerce doing to assist in the promotion of prosperity in Iraq and contribute to a stable outcome? Or the Department of Education? We know that in many parts of the world, broad based educational programs are lacking. This leaves young people with little useful formal education and even fewer economic alternatives. How about the Department of Health and Human Services? What can and should this department be doing overseas to contribute to America''s security?

and
''The Army has suspended plans to expand an unwieldy, 16-month-old program to call up inactive soldiers for military duty, after thousands have requested delays or exemptions or failed to show up. ''

in the case of the 2nd article: does this mean a draft is not too far off?

Securing America''s future will require a different way of thinking about security and defense. The face of America overseas must be more than the Soldier carrying a weapon. This face must also include the scientists, educators, agriculture specialists and disease control specialists. ''
