A horse of course....
I know this sounds strange but so far the only gifts we have received are animal related first the puppy which you can see in another post, then petco and petsmart gift cards and now this, I mean we only own a doxie puppy and a ferret I guess we could use another animal right....?

So my mom calls me today and asks if I would like a wedding gift and I of course say yes, so she says to me "well i've been thinking...... Since you had to give up your old horse how would you like a a new one?" (I laugh becuase my moms not the type of person who just gives her OWN daughter as horse) Well so I ask how much and she says FREE like im an idiot, she says to me its a wedding gift A GIFT! So I of course jump for joy!!!! and ask her a million times if shes joking. So she gives me the details on him apparently hes a 3 year old paint horse about 15.2 hds very sweet disposition and halter broke which this is all very exciting becuase it means I get to bond with him! and no one else has had the chance to mess him up. My mom is also going to train him and possibly buy me a new saddle since mine is outdated.

I know this doesnt apply to all becuase not every one in the forum rides owns or has a love of horse as much as some of us in the forum do,but I just wanted to share my excitement! hopefully ill have pictures of him soon!

My mom still has to go look at him and make sure hes a good horse for me but she said if hes not then she will keep looking so we will find out tomorrow! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I feel like a kid in a candy store!

AND THE BEST PART my FI is just as excited becuase he knows that horses are my life and him of course! haha now I just have to convince him to let me walk down the isle on a horse!

WOW-that is the best present ever!! You must be so excited-he sounds beautiful and its great that no one has taught him any bad habits and you can train him from the beginning. Congratulations

Wow - must have pics of this gorgeous boy! I hope he is the right one for you! Training your own can have it's frustrating moments, but is so rewarding when you get it right! Best of luck with him

I think that''s an awesome gift! And so much more rewarding and cuddly than a place setting of china! What a cool mom!

Ha ha that exactly what I was thinking when she told me I was like this totally beats china and crystal stuff ill probably never use! right now im just waiting for a phone call from my mom to tell me weather or not shes going to get him. Im sitting on edge as you can imagine I know its just a horse but when you have your old one taken away from you this just brings a whole new happiness to life!

I definitely would be in the clouds. Lots of work if he is only halter broke, but like you said he will only know what you teach him. Congrats!

I had lots of horses as a kid. I went from Gymkhana to showing miniature horses. My father sold the last of our minis about 4 years ago. I had stopped showing them right before I got out of high school. They were just sitting in my fathers backyard doing nothing for years so I took it upon myself to sell them to good homes. My brothers wife & I have been pondering getting a horse. I miss riding & so does she. She had to leave her horse in Germany when she came to the states. The only problem is that there is really no where to ride in Vegas anymore. Feed, farriers, vet care & boarding is so expensive. I think it''s more fun for me to think about than actually doing it.

It will be lots of work but the horse i had befoe was only halter broke too and by the time he was done training we went to our first show and became researve champs of the day! I do eventing and working western so this horse will be perfect for that. I had to let my old horse go becuase the family i trained him for decided they wanted to keep him.they were going to sell him but apparently he became a kids horse and is getting his mouth yanked on constantly so im pretty sure all the training i did on him went out the barn window! Its sad because i fell in love with this horse but all good things come to an end. but now i may have a new love

Oh, I adore horses! I have owned horses myself, and I am sure you know as well as I do how much fun they are. That is an AWESOME gift. I am sure it will be much more fun than a bunch of pricey plates!

WOW! What an awesome Mom!!!

That has got to be the best wedding present I''ve ever heard of!

Hmm, animal related wedding gifts might be a trend. My parents gave my sister and her new husband doggie boot-camp for their wedding.

Well my mom went and looked at him apparently hes a arab - paint cross and my mom didnt like his confromation so now I get to search and find a horse! yay! Ill keep everyone updated!

What was wrong with his conformation? Any problems there or likely to be?

Have fun shopping! Great idea for a wedding gift!

I guess he had a really long back so that could become an issue becuase I will be jumping and he was cow hocked with a very arab rear end >pointy< my mom said he had great color though, very flashy.

Oh well---maybe you will find a good jumping prospect else where. Sigh--I do love flashy pintos though!

well my mom found a rare find today! a 3 horses for the price of one deal! only 1800 for all three! its a mare and her filly and the mare is also prego! and i guess the babies all have super good bloodlines! my parents are going to talk about getting them tonight.

That sounds great but do you have the time, skill and resources to care for and train the foal and the filly, also look after the mare? Going from one horse to almost three is a big leap in a weekend!

Wow! What breed are these new ones you are thinking of? I just love little foals!

There all paints which is what i wanted and my moms gift to me is that she is training the foals for me for FREE ill only be getting one of the foals im hopeing the one that isnt born yet is a colt and thats the one ill take, the mare will become my moms trail horse and the filly will be my sisters new show horse im only getten one lol
