Hi,
Yesterday i took my gemstones on a walk into the sunlight. I wanted to see how they looked in sun. I recently purchased a 3 ct amethyst that was a nice dark African color.(Namibia) I noticed that the culet was chipped and I have a white light at the end.
I just finished reading the recent topic on a pink tourmaline where the PSer had the same problem. Most people here thought her stone looked better with the open culet. Since I cant forward a photo, a written description is the best I can do. The white light at the end of the stone gives the stone a depth perception that was not there before. It enhances depth. The color is fine. How bad would it be to set the stone this way. The darker color shows the white light from the open culet more significantly than it did in the pink tourmaline.
The stone did not come that way. It is a 10 mm round and while I was trying to weight it, it slipped several times out of my grasp. I did not notice the damage until yesterday. It was an inexpensive stone but quite nice for the money.
This is my first damage. I''ll be much more careful in future.
Thanks,
Annette
