Hi everyone!

I mentioned in another thread that I was recently having a change of heart with the wedding (eloping) dress that I purchased last month. I wanted to do something different, and don''t want to be overly dressed up since we are eloping by going down to the courthouse. However, we are having pictures taken of us around DC afterwards, so I do want to dress up. I think I have been overwhelmed by choices, and being someone who never imagined herself in a traditional wedding gown, the whole process has been difficult. I do want to look simple, but chic, and pretty and classic. My FI will be wearing a black suit, and I find myself incredibly inspired by pictures of Mia Farrow when she got married to Frank Sinatra. It was very unfussy, but they both looked AMAZING. I can only hope to achieve that kind of look and feeling on my wedding day.

Here is my thread with pictures of the original Marchesa dress:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/i-bought-my-dress-or-at-least-i-think-it-is-going-to-end-up-as-my-dress.76186/

The more that I thought about it, the more it seemed like the dress overwhelms me. I am 5''3" about 112 pounds. Also, when I tried the Marchesa for my mom, she wasn''t exactly thrilled about the dress. It bothered her that part of it was black. I really value her opinion, and I know it should be about how I feel, but I''ve been analyzing (maybe over-analyzing) it and the dress has lost it''s luster for me. I worry that I''m becoming a little too obsessed and crazy over this.

Anyway....

A few days ago, I received the new J.Crew catalog in the mail and ordered these two dresses:

http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod90768191

http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod92741191 (in champagne)

I got them this evening....and I have to comment, they are completely inflating their sizing. I ordered the long gown in both a size 0 and 2, and the shorter dress in a size 0. Both size 0 dresses are a bit big.

I tried to take pictures of myself, but I don''t think they came out well. I will try to have a friend take pictures of me tomorrow for a better sense.

I really love the long gown -- it has pockets! I don''t think I would actually have a need for the pockets, but they sure are fun! I would definitely have to get it shortened and taken in up top. I was thinking with the extra material, I can make it into a belt for some embellishment, or a little bow for the back. The material is very cool -- lightweight and almost a jacquard print to it. It''s a really gorgeous dress and a value too.

The second dress is also very pretty...BUT, it is WAY too big at the stop. I think the most alterations would occur there. I''m sorry that it''s a bit wrinkled, but I just ripped open the box and threw it on.

What do you guys think?

Thanks for letting me obsess. I''m so fickle-minded and just so tired of changing my mind. If anything, I thought dress shopping would have been the easiest thing.

Pictures to follow...

Shorter dress....

Not sure if you guys can tell that it''s bigger up top. The model wears it so well...the shoulders don''t fit on me and hangs a bit.

Thanks again for taking the time to look!

Of these two, I love the second one. The first one is nice, but the second one just really catches my eye.

Sorry to hear about the inflated sizing! I''m surprised they don''t offer the wedding collection in petite sizes.

I think you look super chic in the second dress. After seeing you in the Marchesa, the first one cannot compare at all. I still prefer the Marchesa because it''s got that special je ne sais quoi about it. It''s just a *special* dress.

I mean, it blows these two dresses out of the water...

Nevertheless, you look fantastic in the second dress.

As much as I loved the Marchesa, I love the second J.Crew dress more. The little belt and the pockets are so adorable, and I think it''s absolutely perfect for a courthouse wedding. You could get some fabulous Manolos with the money you save on the dress!!!

I remember you saying the Marchesa made you feel very Audrey Hepburn...the second Jcrew makes me think Audrey too, just a little more casual. I also don''t like the idea of cutting off the Marchesa to tea-length, I like how heavy it hangs.

So, my vote for your courthouse wedding with pics in DC is Jcrew #2!!! Might actually suggest that dress as a BM dress for my older BM...thanks for the pic!!!

my vote is for the second and im sure after its altered it would LOOK AMAZING ON YOU!!! its so classic

I still LOVE your Marchesa. But, I understand the mom thing. Moms can be very influential. If it were me, I''d still go with the Marchesa because it is stunning.

But of the 2 J Crew Dresses, I prefer the 2nd one. It is more chic to me.

So, I feel your pain. I actually was deciding between a Badgley Miscka evening gown and the Marchesa one. I love the Marchesa one but at the end of the day, the black on the top and the pleats made it a no go for me. It is such a lovely lovely gown and I still love it but I don''t think its the wedding gown for me. I do think with you being so small, it may be a lot of fabric. Either way, I think you will look great. But I ended up going with the Badgley gown due to similar reasons.

I really like the second J Crew one. It looks perfect.

I am so glad you are rethinking the Marchesa. It is a lovely dress, and it wore you so completely it was like you weren''t there at all. I am about your size and know the feeling of being overwhelmed by clothes.
I think the second Jcrew dress is perfect. Its vintage classy and lets you show through.

Thanks for the honest assessment everyone!

I also had a mini-fashion show today at work for a few of my co-workers, and they were unanimous about their favorite: the second J.Crew dress.

I will sit on it for a few days more...and if I decide to go with the J.Crew, that means I have a lot of extra money to spend on accessories! Maybe I should get some Manolos or Louboutins...hehe.

Thanks again...I really value everyone''s input.

Do it!!! Go for the luxurious shoes. I love these and they may work with that J Crew dress. If only I could wear these on the beach...but alas I don''t think I''d be able to walk :)

Wow! Those shoes are GORGEOUS! The detailing on the heel is so interesting and unusual.

Thanks for the suggestion!

SuLi, it sounds like you''ve already made up your mind, and I love the second J. Crew dress too! So I think you''ll be very happy with that.

But I wanted to throw in my two cents too - when I first looked at the Marchesa dress I agreed with the comments that it was too much dress for such a petite person and that it was wearing you instead of you wearing it. BUT then I read that you were going to hem it to knee length...and I LOVE that idea and I think it would look amazing on you and completely adorable. I totally get the Audrey vibe from it, especially in a shorter length, and I don''t think that the shorter length would overwhelm you either. A super cute pair of black peep-toe d''orsay pumps would look absolutely darling....

I do like the J. Crew dress too...but I love the Marchesa dress in a shorter length even more!

I love both dresses by jcrew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, the one with the pockets --- I love this concept!!!!!! I fell in love with an Angel Sanchez A-line with front scalloped pockets and the look was so modern and unique. But, I am too curvy for this look so it is a no-go for me.

It looks really great on you!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, the second one looks fantastic too and it makes even more of a bold statement. I think if you were to get it tailored to fit you to a tee and perhaps add some crinoline or something to give it a bit more oomph......also paired with some dynamite shoes and a killer vintage sweater or something, you would look FABULOUS.

Just read your Marchesa story and still -- I vote for JCrew #2 dress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
