Hi everyone!
I mentioned in another thread that I was recently having a change of heart with the wedding (eloping) dress that I purchased last month. I wanted to do something different, and don''t want to be overly dressed up since we are eloping by going down to the courthouse. However, we are having pictures taken of us around DC afterwards, so I do want to dress up. I think I have been overwhelmed by choices, and being someone who never imagined herself in a traditional wedding gown, the whole process has been difficult. I do want to look simple, but chic, and pretty and classic. My FI will be wearing a black suit, and I find myself incredibly inspired by pictures of Mia Farrow when she got married to Frank Sinatra. It was very unfussy, but they both looked AMAZING. I can only hope to achieve that kind of look and feeling on my wedding day.
Here is my thread with pictures of the original Marchesa dress:

The more that I thought about it, the more it seemed like the dress overwhelms me. I am 5''3" about 112 pounds. Also, when I tried the Marchesa for my mom, she wasn''t exactly thrilled about the dress. It bothered her that part of it was black. I really value her opinion, and I know it should be about how I feel, but I''ve been analyzing (maybe over-analyzing) it and the dress has lost it''s luster for me. I worry that I''m becoming a little too obsessed and crazy over this.
Anyway....
A few days ago, I received the new J.Crew catalog in the mail and ordered these two dresses:

http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod92741191 (in champagne)
I got them this evening....and I have to comment, they are completely inflating their sizing. I ordered the long gown in both a size 0 and 2, and the shorter dress in a size 0. Both size 0 dresses are a bit big.
I tried to take pictures of myself, but I don''t think they came out well. I will try to have a friend take pictures of me tomorrow for a better sense.
I really love the long gown -- it has pockets! I don''t think I would actually have a need for the pockets, but they sure are fun! I would definitely have to get it shortened and taken in up top. I was thinking with the extra material, I can make it into a belt for some embellishment, or a little bow for the back. The material is very cool -- lightweight and almost a jacquard print to it. It''s a really gorgeous dress and a value too.
The second dress is also very pretty...BUT, it is WAY too big at the stop. I think the most alterations would occur there. I''m sorry that it''s a bit wrinkled, but I just ripped open the box and threw it on.
What do you guys think?
Thanks for letting me obsess. I''m so fickle-minded and just so tired of changing my mind. If anything, I thought dress shopping would have been the easiest thing.
Pictures to follow...
