Gonzo, my super sweet rooster who never gave up. He came from a local woman and was one of two with bad beak deformities. The little hen passed at just a few weeks old. Gonzo came with me as I had to be away for a weekend this summer and rode well in the truck. People viewing the house loved him and a couple even asked if they could pet him. The vet staff adored him. There were a few times we didn't think he would make it, but he just kept going. He even purred as I held him to feed him. He gained a lot of weight and had energy to strut around with the young hens making sure they knew who the rooster was. This last week, he started crowing. Listening to him learn was so fun. He sounded like a truck trying to get going and it was absolutely adorable. He finally got his crow this morning. It was wonderful and he was so proud of himself! I am so glad he got to give one good crow before he left us! Shortly after, he snuggled against my chest and then his heart gave out. We knew it would come one day, but we were not ready yet. He was only six months old.

I’m very sorry. It sounds like he was aware of how much he was loved.

I’m so sorry!! My best friend has chickens and I love hearing her stories about them. I had no idea how affectionate they could be.

I am so sorry @TooPatient :(
It is always so horrible losing a loved one but when they are so young it is even more tragic
I am so sorry for your loss. May Gonzo RIP

So very sorry for this loss. Although his life was short, you made sure it was a good one.

Thanks for sharing Gonzo’s story and for giving him a good life. RIP Gonzo:((

I'm so happy that Gonzo got to be a full rooster. He was a fighter, that one. That crow counts for something and he left feeling proud.
Super Gonzo!

Oh no! This is so sad.
You took such great care of him. He was a lucky bird, who had a wonderful home and was loved.

I’m so sorry @TooPatient…Gonzo sounded so sweet..

I'm so sorry @TooPatient ...so hard when you think something (especially a pet) is striving and it comes out of the blue. Sounds like
his last days were good ones...thank you for that.
