this a.m. i rec''d the following from a brit friend [now a naturalized US citizen] living in the bay area who has another take on the situation:
"It''s been a while since I dropped you a line, so I thought I''d do it now because I''m leaving for London tomorrow, where gas prices have been over $6 a gallon for at least 10 years. Although I drive an old Mercedes that gets probably about 9 mpg, I don''t think I can complain about paying less than $3 a gallon now. I''ll probably start feeling upset when everyone everywhere has to pay $6, though. The bigger problem, as I see it, lies in the unconscionable distribution of income in this country. Just this morning, I heard it announced that America''s CEOs averaged $12 million a year, while its workers averaged $27,000. If that issue were addressed, paying for gas wouldn''t be any problem -- that is, unless gas supplies run out on us! "
