The presence of Julia Minerva Green | National Center for Homeopathy
One evening in February, I spoke by phone to the grand-nephew of a mentor of mine. Ever since I read: "When this materialistic age has passed and a better more spiritual one arrives, homeopathy will come into its own," Julia Minerva Green, MD, has been an inspiration for me. That evening, her...

Dr. Green was an American Homeopath whose practice and patients were referred to my maternal grandmother as a result of years of sharing a medical practice in Washington DC. This thimble was handed down in my family and recently rediscovered in the sewing kit of our cottage in Maine, which we emptied out for sale in the middle of February, while it was 11 degrees F outside. Needless to say the thimble fit my finger beautifully in that cold week, but after return to Florida, my fingers once again expanded to their usual girth, and the thimble (while beautiful and heavy!) is forlorn and lonely. She's ready to move to a new home where she'll be loved and used! Dr. Green was a very sentimental person, a gentle soul who wore sensible shoes. She would love knowing that her thimble survived and was so carefully preserved.
Marked 14k and engraved with J.M.G for Julia Minerva Green. Also marked "9" on the outside which denotes the interior millimeter size of the thimble's top (but fully hallmarked 14K on the inside, with maker's mark too, so the "9" is NOT denoting 9k gold). Weighs in at a beefy 5.7g and is as solid as can be.
Most heavy thimbles of this kind are listed for $250+ on etsy although lighter weight ones, or lower karat gold and sterling silver versions sell for much less. The goal here is to find the right person for this amazing little piece of history. If you're a sewer or an embroiderer, or if you are interested in the history of Homeopathy in America, here's your chance to own a small but mighty piece of it. $125
