I've been lucky enough to be the guardian of this beautiful ring for the last 4 years, but sadly I'm needing to free up some funds and space in my collection and this piece doesn't get taken on as many adventures!
It was purchased directly from an Antiques jeweler in Portland, Or; and they in turn had purchased it directly from the grandson of the orginal wearer and so for once had a little story behind the ring which I just adored! His grandmother had given it as a betrothal ring to her fiancé in 1906. They were both students at Harvard at the time and the man, grandfather and husband, went on to become a fantastic surrealist artist in California. The Latin banner means “an eagle doesn’t catch flies.” It’s a super glorious and chunky (13.4 grams!) and feels wonderful and weighty against the finger. The interior of the band features engravings of their initials and read (to my eyes at least!) K.B.S. TO W.G.C. 17 AUG 1906. It’s a size 7.25 and could be sized up or down a couple sizes.
The engraving is still stunning 117 years later, and it has such a satisfying curve and weight to it. It's genuinely something really special. It would work wonderfully for a men's or women's ring, and I've adored wearing it as a ring on my pointer finger. It has gentle scratches throughout and could be polished, but I've enjoyed it showing it's history
Asking for $1500 (will include signed expedited delivery in the US), but I mainly just want it to go to a home that appreciates it's magic! I'm keeping this as a Pricescope only listing as I want it to go somewhere it will be appreciated, so I can be contacted via the loupetroop link for a different piece below.
