Hi, I'm looking to create my perfect engagement ring, and I'm looking for the perfect setting to go with my *possible* sapphire. I was wondering if there was a vendor that sold beautiful art deco or edwardian settings?

Are you looking only for period settings, or are you interested in reproductions? There are a lot of vendors that create reproductions, but if you want the real deal it can be a bit harder. The wording on a lot of settings can be very tricky to decipher, so if age is an important factor, be sure to ask the vendor. A lot of times, if you see the term "style" added to the description, it's a reproduction or just designed to look old. I have seen a lot of curious wording, though, so just be aware of what you want and what you are buying.

Don't forget to make sure the setting will fit your stone (if you already have it), or find the perfect setting first, then track down a stone that will fit it (or have the vendor help you with this).

A few sites that sell vintage and/or reproduction settings, or semi-mounts, as they are sometimes called:

http://www.doverjewelry.com
http://www.singlestone.com
http://antiqueengagementrings.com/shopping/default.asp
http://www.jewelsbyericagrace.com/home

Good luck, and have fun shopping. :)

Thanks so much for this! I would prefer the real deal, but do not mind the reproductions if they have the feel and craftsmanship of the period settings. I just love the delicate details that go in to an antique ring.
