Any alternatives to Jewelers Mutual?

I've had insurance through JM for years and have never made a claim (no claims on my homeowners through State Farm either). I called in a couple weeks ago with a question about my policy - after 40 minutes of being on/off hold, I was told they would get an answer and call back so I wouldn't have to stay on the line if that was more convenient for me. I never got a callback. So after about a week of waiting for a return phone call, I thought I would follow up with an email because the phone call didn't go well in terms of follow up/answers. It took a week to get a response to that email, but they didn't really answer my question.

I'm not fancy enough for Chubb, so I'm just wondering if there are any other options for jewelry insurance at the JM level, but with better service? If I could comfortably afford to pay out of pocket to replace everything, I'd be tempted to just cancel and self-insure because that seems like it would be less stressful, but that isn't realistic at the moment. However, I'm concerned that if JM is this much of a headache on something not related to a claim, how bad would it be trying to get something replaced if I ever needed it, so it might be worth looking for alternatives.

Thank you!

I can attest that they're not quick to respond to emails- and phone is a pain in the you know what with them....but on the other hand, they always seem to get the job done....even if it takes a few days.....

If you have homeowners insurance you should be able to get a Personal Articles Policy with the carrier.

Thank you David. It is good to know JM will come through when needed, even if their CS is not always the most timely/user friendly.

I do already have a personal articles policy for smaller pieces through State Farm in addition to my JM policy for higher value items. I will have to see what their coverage limits are though, because adding my scheduled pieces that are currently with JM would triple that policy. And I was hoping to keep the higher value pieces as a separate policy so jewelry rates wouldn't increase if I ever had a claim on the homeowners and vice versa. But as I haven't had a claim on either policy, that may be a calculated risk worth taking if their prices are competitive with JM premiums and my State Farm rep has always been very helpful.

I use Chubb and am extremely happy with the coverage and customer service. I don't think you should be worried about not being "fancy enough"--I think you might be pleasantly surprised by their rates and accessibility (I certainly was). It can't hurt to just get a quote and see if it would work for you!

For me, I've always been able to connect quickly and easily with a Jeweler's Mutual representative. Never had an issue.

I signed up with brite co. but haven't had to file a claim yet. Their application process was very straightforward and everything has been very streamlined so far. Hopefully their claims process will be similar, if it ever comes to that. *knock on wood*

I'll try reaching out again, maybe through a different agent this time and see if I have better luck with them now. My assumption that I'm not fancy enough for Chubb stems from a prior application I made a few years ago where they were less than excited to work with me (maybe that person was having an off day) despite being referred directly by my prior agent with Liberty Mutual who knew the Chubb rep. Liberty suggested the potential transfer because I was on the upper end of 'normal' for what they usually cover, but I think that is still (well) below the average Chubb customer, so I'm probably in some weird limbo of not really fitting in on either side. Maybe a milestone birthday next year would be a good time for that 2.5+ ct D/E VS diamond I've been trying to justify as a 'need' for awhile now... especially if that would bump me up a notch in the insurance world while scratching a longtime itch - 2 birds, 1 stone and all... :evil2:

Unfortunately, not all of us share your good fortune in that regard. Dainty is the stuff my dreams are made of, so I hope they continue to do well by you because I wouldn't wish my current frustration, compounded by a seeming lack of reasonable alternatives on anyone, much less someone with such a gorgeous collection.

Thank you! I'll check them out and see how premiums/coverage compare.

I’ve also had good luck with Jewelers Mutual. I’ve never had to replace anything (knocks on wood) but they’ve covered repairs quickly and easily.
Sorry to hear not everyone has had the same experience

Definitely try Chubb again. A different agent maybe. Chubb’s standalone personal valuables policies are cash out, none of that “replace with like kind and quality” mumbo jumbo - and in my case their premium is also significantly lower than what I used to pay JM before I switched over. Well worth a few calls to see if there’s a good fit.

I am also following this thread... been doing some researching online and Lavalier and Zillion have come up as well. Anyone have experience with these companies?
