I was just looking on Ebay for wedding dresses and WOW there are so many....
It''s kinda scary/risky though....isn''t it?
Did anyone go this route, and how did it work out?

I really really want to say under $1K for my dress so my options are limited.

There are tons of "new'' gowns. It''s very tempting. Maybe after I go trying on gowns and get an idea of what looks good on me, I''d feel more comfortable buying on line.

I am thinking of going the Ebay route - with the dresses made to measure in Asia. I read somewhere on here that the material isn't as good quality as other vendors, but a girl I work with got her dress this way and said she was really happy with it and the material was beautiful. They will also do custom designs if you contact them about it.

I am still leaning towards this as it is around AUD $250 for a dress with shipping and I really cannot justify spending over about $800 on a dress.

I intend to go shopping for dresses first to get an idea on what I like and what looks good on me before buying online.

I did this. I bought my gown on ebay for $150...I spent another 100 getting it hemmed to my lenght and adding a corset back. I LOVED my dress and now I am a little bit sad, that DH threw it in the trash after the Trash The Dress Session.

My dress was brand new, with tags still hanging from it. I don''t think it was brand name (the tag said Enzo, but I''ve never heard of it).

I also bought two veils...a cathedral lenght one for $21 including shipping and a fingertip length one for $12 dollars with free shipping.

I LOVE E-bay!

Here is a picture of the front of my dress.

This is the back and I wore the shorter fingetip veil during the ceremony...

Last one, I swear! This is kinda from the side with the cathedral veil...the day after the wedding...

The fabric argument is only an issue (I think?) if you wanted a silk or satin gown. My gown is made of lovely 100% polyester

and was around 1k. So... um... how much worse can it get than poly? I guess I''m pretty naive about fabrics. I suppose there are different quality polyesters and silks and satins?

Have you checked out Brides Against Breast Cancer? I''m trying to think of other ways to "safely" purchase a gown that''s less costly than the boutique-route. What about preownedweddingdresses.com? Lots of ladies have had luck with that website!

I would only buy a dress off eBay if it was one I had already tried on. Otherwise it seems like too much of a risk, especially if the seller doesn''t have a return policy.

If you''re trying to stay under $1k, have you checked out J. Crew wedding dresses? They''re simple but very pretty and I think all or most of them are silk.

I considered the eBay route, but ended up buying my dress from RueLaLa.com during their Nicole Miller sale. I was willing to take the risk, given that the price was low enough (under $300) and the savings was high enough (over 70%). My dress (which was silk) came with tags on and a Nicole Miller garment bag. Alterations cost around $90. I really loved my dress, but had I not I would have returned it for credit or sold it on eBay.

I also considered J.Crew. They have lovely dresses that are 100% silk and fully returnable for under $600.

I had gotten a gorgeous Blue By Ezoani off Ebay! It was well under $400, and the cost of the alterations were $300. Considering the quality of the gown, it was well worth it! I am not using that gown though because it was bought for a wedding that I called off.

I can''t save the picture on my laptop, but the link is here. Go to the 2008 collection, it''s Arlington.

I still love that gown.

I bought my dress off of ebay. I tried on loads of dresses, but never found "the one" for a reasonable price. When I found a ver lovely dress in my price range I realised that it was still much more than I wanted to pay for it, it was $700. I found it on ebay, new and in my size for $150. I spent another $100 ish on alterations.

I think I''d only buy on ebay if I knew what looked good on me or if I''d tried on the exact dress before.

I bought my brand new (tags still on) Calvin Klein dress on ebay for $31. Fit me perfectly and didn't need any alterations!

ETA: Yikes, sorry that is so huge.
