Any interest in 4.75ct emerald?

I purchased this from another PSer a few years ago for love of its color, but now find myself trying to set my collection and can't figure out how best to use this one. It's a lovely stone, but I'm becoming more and more convinced that I should stick to blue OR green, not bluish green. However, I'd hate for it to keep living in my case when it might be someone's inspiration. Anyone interested?

FWIW, these are the photos from the original owner, who described it as a lightly oiled Colombian stone. In hand, I find it's a slightly deeper bluish green in all but strong sunlight, where it approximates this minty colour. I'm in Australia, but have some experience with shipping between here and the States, and I'm happy to work with a PSer from either locale who's got a dream for this stone!

Edited to add: The first image shows a tilt window, as do most larger beryls, but the stone is precisely cut and has no window when viewed directly. I'm afraid I don't remember the precise dimensions, but to the best of my recollection it's around 11x8mm - will re-measure when I get the chance and update accordingly.

You really need to list it on loupetroop with pricing in order to find out if anyone is interested. :)) I will also say that I would need some better and more close-up pictures to be able to tell if I was interested. I feel sure there would be interest if the price was right. But there's really no reason to start a thread here unless you list it with the details!

 Good call! I'll take care of that tonight.... If you don't mind my asking, would you want photos from different angles, closer views..?

I am glad you took that the way it was intended (hopefully!)...to be helpful! I have seen a few posts here like that, and really, I don't think I can say if I am interested in something unless all the info is provided. Plus, when the listing is there, even if someone doesn't reply here right away, they may run across your item as they look for other things. So it is definitely an advantage to having it listed on one of the sites.

I would want some close ups from all angles, but especially a face-up view like you'd see the stone looking down at it in a ring.

Good luck with your sale! Looks like a pretty stone!

Is there a lap report to prove it's an emerald with only light oil?

Hi Sarah,

No lab report, I'm afraid, but if the buyer wished to send it to a reputable lab which found it to be other than described, I'd be happy (if embarassed) to accept a return and additionally refund the cost of a basic report. Thanks for asking!

DS - It absolutely was taken as a helpful comment - I'll try to grab some more and better pics, but as quite a few CS posters would tell you, my photography skills are pretty shabby. Cheers!

Hi Minou! Thanks very much, it never occurred to me that there was anything distinct about the way I write! It also never occurred to me that to make best use of DS's advice, I would have to post the actual link. :cheeky: Can you tell I haven't tried selling anything here before? Cheers for the hand up! I'll be sure to include a DB link if one goes up :))

I bought an emerald from the same seller, and am hoping to have it set in a ring this spring. Good luck with your sale! :wavey:

Did the seller have the initials JC by any chance? Thx :wavey:

Yes. Very nice PSer.

Sure did, Minou! Very pleasant seller, described the stone as accurately as possible and was happy to work with me on the shipping and timing of the purchase. Hope to follow in his footsteps one of these days! ;))

I've updated the photos on Loupetroop, but I'm afraid I still can't get a straight-on shot that isn't blurry. I'll pick up a camera tripod and see if that helps matters....

Cheers!

Good luck to you. Fwiw, I've just revived an old thread on photography over in CS, as I'm really trying to take better photos without having to drag everything outside on good weather days!

I like your thinking - have been scouring the old ones myself, but I think I'll need a tripod before venturing any further. The white paper backdrop works a treat!

Edited to add: I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on whether a lab report would be a good idea for this stone. I've been reluctant to get one myself only because it's spending money on a stone I'm not going to keep, but if it would help buyers gain confidence in the stone I'd be willing. Opinions?

That is a great question. I know based on my experience selling a few higher end stones that a lab report is often requested and the lack of one seems to scare off some buyers. For that amount of money, I would think it would definitely help you sell. If you are going to do it, you know the drill , go for AGL :))
