Any other girls out there searching for their diamond?

Hi Everyone! I love reading this board - it is so informative and sentimental at the same time!

My boyfriend and I have began our search for an engagement ring. We live in different cities so when he came to visit one weekend, we went to a store together to look at settings. He told me the size of diamond he thought looked good on me. However, he figured that searching is not his thing since I will be the one wearing the ring. So he gave me his budget and now I am doing all the research to find the stone.

I read and hear about so many guys doing most of the searching and surprising their girlfriends. As much as I love surprises, I have learned so much about diamonds since I began my search. I feel good being fully educated about our purchase and learning what my likes and dislikes are when it comes to diamonds.

Any other girls out there doing the searching instead of leaving it to your guy?

I think many of us here did some/all of the research for our rings. In the future, you might want to read through the headings of each forum to try and figure out where would be most appropriate for questions, hangout is usually about non-diamond things, so you''ll get more responses in other forums. You might want to check out the ladies in waiting forum specifically as those are girls waiting for rings, proposals, etc.

Not a diamond - my e-ring is a tsavorite - but I did the whole thing with a little bit of input from DH (and he paid the bill

). He gave me a budget and I said I'd pay anything over that - I went over by nearly 50%, and then got a complete shock when he told me he'd not given me the real budget as he had know that this would happen.

I had such fun doing it and since he'd proposed already and that had been a HUGE suprise I didn't feel that I'd lost anything by doing it all myself.

All the women in my family have always chosen their own e-rings so it also seemed normal to me.

I LOVED designing my own e-ring and hunting down the stone. Have fun with yours!

I did the majority of the research on my own as well. In the end I picked my setting and my diamond but in my eyes, it was worth it since I had so much fun searching them out and now I know I''ll get exactly what I want! I''m sure my SO will still find a way to incorporate some element of surprise, even if I know it''s coming in the next several weeks/months.

because it has to be my dream ring and no upgrade later
But to keep BF involved, I chose 3 diamonds and 3 settings and let him picked the one he likes

My BF and I are doing equal amounts of researching/searching but in the end, he makes the final decision and foots the bill!!! I think he finds it nervewracking and stressful since it''s such a big purchase so I''ve been gently guiding him through the process!

I''ve been hovering around pricescope, my SO has not. So I''ve been relaying to him examples of diamonds that are good quality so that he can familiarize himself with what he should be looking for or avoiding. I havent been focusing on size - thats all him - and same with the setting. He knows what features I like in a setting and Id never be able to make my mind up so I''m letting him go with his gut. In the past he''s chosen gifts and such for me that I wouldnt see as something I''d like or my taste but I fall in love with immediately, I think he knows the inner me better then I do.

I''ve been searching for my diamond (and researching settings too) on here for about 4 months, now if my SO will take my advice about where to go and what to look for is another story!
PS has made me a tiny bit of a diamond snob...
