We''re planning a 10-day trip in October and I think it would be nice to venture outside western Europe for a change. Prague is on the list of possibilities. Anybody have any experiences to share?

Prague is the most beautiful place I have ever been....and I visited in October too! It did rain a bit, but I just carried a small collapsible umbrella for those moments.

I stayed at a little B&B in lesser town called U Zlute Boty (The Yellow Boot) - it was wonderful. It was 0.5km from the Charles bridge, 0.5km from the castle, and 1.5km from the main square- perfect walking distance to everything in old Prague. The rooms were very nice, and mine had a private bath. Continental breakfast included, no TV''s.

Here is a link.... Prague . If you click on the red square portions of the map, you can see the various parts of Prague, and what that visitor found to be interesting.

jealous jealous jealous. i hear there is great beer in prague! and good music, too.

peace, movie zombie

jenwill, darlin'', thanks for the info about the Yellow Shoe and for the link.

If you go to Prague, you might want to visit this castle: http://www.hradkarlstejn.cz/ . You can get there very easily by train, it''s about 30 minutes away from Prague. It doesn''t really have any expositions inside as it burned out a while back. I don''t mind that as I find the expositions you can find inside castles rather boring

. Here''s also a website at which you can find some interesting information about the Czech Republic and ask questions you might have : http://www.myczechrepublic.com/ .

I went to Prague about 3 years ago in the spring and had a wonderful experience. Beautiful sights, friendly people, very affordable (I think prices have risen since they are now on the Euro though). The trip I did for a similar amount of time was Budapest, Prague and Vienna. While I can highly recommend Budapest & Prague, I can''t say much for Vienna...I was told it may have been my timing though. Anyway, the only thing I''d express a concern over in Prague would be your eating habits. For most people this isn''t a problem, but I ate no meat then and I had an extremely difficult time finding food. Despite my problems with the food, I loved my trip there! I''m jealous of anyone who gets to go!

The Czech Republic is not on Euro. However, Blue824 is right in that the prices have risen due to a couple reasons. It''s because the taxes imposed on restaurants and hotels were raised and because the rate of the US dollar is extremely low. Generally, the costs would be about 1/3 more than they were 2 - 3 years ago (only if your currency is the US dollar).

Getting close !

I am passing through Prague quite often and have lived there a couple of years ago as well. I am really in love with the old town ... It makes for a couple of days of exploring and you can''t really go wrong with the food either. Several restaurants (hotels as well, I guess) perched on the castle hill overlooking the city deep down below must have the greatest view of any buiding in Europe bar the Eiffel tower... The small hotells in 18 century buildings downtown proved charming: several are simple former guard lodgings (now 2-3 star hotells) and at least two next to the pallace coutyard show off 5 stars and definitely deserve them.

I wish I was in town when you pass by

Oops! My mistake, I thought they switched over because when I was looking to go back all the prices for hotels were quoted in Euros, but I guess they still are on the koruna.

Even if it is more expensive, still worth it

Great place - we went to the spa area too - a 2 or 3 hour bus ride thru the country side and villages.
no desire to go back - but it is a really cute easy walking type place.
hire bikes and ride along the rivver out to a palace in an orchard with an amazing ball room with a 3D mural painted all over the walls.
Food is adequate (5 years ago - might have improved - but then again if your american and have no idea about nice food you might like it

Concerts everywhere - some were great
