Not to sound like a beggar but I hate my job...if anyone on here in the maryland area knows of any open positions at thier place of buisness please let me know. I have my high school diploma (like thats gonna cut it anymore yes yes I know I need to go back to college....this is why I need to find another DECENT job with tuition reimbursement) and some college but no degree. I have been working since age 17. 17 to 20 was all customer service retail positions but for one of them I was a manager if that counts at all. From 20 to 23 I worked at Micros Systems Inc. My official title was Import/Export Admin. It was your average clerical job but it was very heavy on dealing with customers and I had to learn international trafficing. I baisically did all the paperwork for our products to pass through customs which is harder than it sounds because of all the ins and outs. Honestly I wouldn''t mind working import/exports again especially international....if you get your brokers lisence you can make bank. I was off for a year from an injury. Then for the past year I have been working for Dunbar Armored. For most of my time I have been a Contract Administrator but I had to do a 4 month stint in Billing/Collections. Both are very clerical attention to detail data entry. The billing/collections job had me dealing with money and sales reps and I must say when i''m not stressed people seem to like me :) I use your basic office computer stuff.....Microsoft Word, Excel...Access. Internet.....Oracle....CMS. I''m a pretty darn fast learner and I can type like a demon and file like a champ :) If you all know of anything please send me a message!!!

Start with monster.com. I really don't think you'll have trouble finding an administrative job with your skills. Also try a temp agency that only does direct hire. Be very specific with an agency about what you want to do and what area you want to work in i.e. the Baltimore metro area and not Washington, DC metro area and . I hope this helps!

The Federal Govt is one place that will do tuition reimbursements in a lot of cases. I''d go back tomorrow and finish my last 1.5 years, but I want to do it full time and right now we''re paying for our kids to go to college. Anyway, where I work, they will send you one of several ways. There''s full time school, 20/20 (you work 20hours a week and go to school full time and get paid) or one class at a time on your own time (either nights or by working less hours). They usually won''t send you right away. You have to work and go to school on your own and then apply. They''re very encouraging about education. My suggestion is go with one of the higher profile agencies, FBI, CIA, NSA, DOD. They tend to have more positions in higher pay grades once you finish school and are big on training. I almost positive every agency has their own web page where you can get info.

I second Monster. I found my current job through them. But you cant just post your resume, you need to do searches yourself and submit resumes to companies. Very few people contacted me.

Other great on-line sources: hotjobs.com and you can search the Washington Post classifieds by job and location as well. I sat down once a day for about an hour and searched and submitted resumes to all the online job searches... some days were better than others!

Along with what momoftwo was saying about government agencies, check out the career pages of some of the big defense contractors in the area:
Lockheed Martin
Boeing
Northrop Grumman
Booz Allen Hamilton

Thanks lmurden and njc for the info about Monster. I think I tried something like it a few years ago and I just kept getting ad''s more than I got job information so i''ve been wary of using internet stuff like that.

Momoftwo,
Are you a marylander?? Your job/school situation sounds very much like what Johns Hopkins is like here. My mom works for a sub contractor to NASA and she had worked at the Johns Hopkins APL lab a lot. She said there were a lot of clerical position and I put in 3 resumes a few weeks ago. I know gov''t jobs are where it''s at for benefits. My moms job is a dream! I would even take what my old job offered. They weren''t goverment at all, but thier program was a big help to me. I had to pay for my school upfront but then if I got passed the class with a c or above they would reimburse me at the end of my semester. Even that worked out because i''d take out a little student loan and just pay it off with that reimbursement before I even accrued any intrest. Thank you for the info!

There are a lot of jobs posted on www.asaenet.org under "Career Headquarters." It is the website for the american society of association executives - most trade associations and non-profits post jobs here. Many of these organizations are based in the DC-metro area. They can have very generous tuition reimbursement benefits...

Good luck!

I grew up in MD, but live in No Va and work for an intel agency. Most gov't agencies are that way. Clerical is the easiest way to get on if you don't have a degree yet. Most are hurting for good clerical, admin support. I started as a secretary and moved into a semi-professional admin position. It pays better than most jobs with the benefits and all.

I don't know if you've read my thread about my job interview in a little over a week, but I just got this awesome opportunity to have one of my dream jobs! I found it by searching in my state employment website. It's a sate government job. Try yours!

P.S. I tried monster and all I got was junk mail from them. Nothing else.
