mine took about four months to arrive from my guess is china, i picture its travel on a very slow boat...

i mean the dresses aren''t custom, they are made in specific sizes and then altered later, so what''s the hold up?

it''s all controlled by a coalition of bitter women who are unlucky in love. they enjoy making you wait!

oh darn them!

Buy the sample!!

If it fits, or nearly fits that it.

I bought the sample of mine. It was great to know it was there waiting for me in the bridal shop all the time. I go back for my final fitting soon! YAY!

welll, luckily, mine is sitting in my closet waiting for alterations, but i just wondered why dresses take so long in the first place

I work in retail, and I am guessing that the dress manufacturing process is similar to other items. The fabrics alone can have 60-100 day leadtimes, and then production can take another 6-10 weeks (I work with other product categories, so this is just a pure guess.) I also wonder if some companies wait to receive a certain number of orders in a particular style before proceeding with the production of the style...could also add to the total leadtime.

oh i see, i guess in my head, i thought dresses sat in some warehouse until it was ordered, gosh i''m ignorant about dresses

Wedding dresses are one of those things that are made to order. There are so many styles that if each designer made 5 in 10 sizes, likely only 2 would be purchased. What a waste that would be!!

Those numbers were pulled outta my butt obviously, but it would be crazy to have some wedding dress warehouse where millions of gowns just sit there. And another million shows up every season. LOL.

I also think (at least my cynical side thinks) that part of it, too, is that it adds to the specialness of the dress. I mean, when else do you ever buy an outfit that you must wait 2-6 months for. My really cynical side also thinks part of it is to justify the price. Like, "look at all this work that went into it and how long it took--that''s why it is thousands of dollars."

At least as it was haphazardly explained to me, there is a rotation schedule at the production houses. So if you place your order for a size 10 Miranda of the BeautifulBride line, you have to wait for that particular dress and size to come up in the rotation. Then your dress (and all the other identical dresses ordered) will be cut at the same time, and then they get stitched and decorated, etc. And then they are separated and sent off to the various retail stores. This is why your dresss *may* come in 1 month after you order it or it *may* take the whole production cycle quoted to come in - if your order timing was unlucky relative to the production schedule. Why it sometimes takes longer than quoted, well, that I'm not sure of. Maybe a mistake was made, or maybe they delayed putting that dress in the rotation because their were too few orders (even though of course there was yours.)

i imagine it''s because the dress nazi''s want to heighten our anticipation so we''ll really, really love our dresses (not that we didn''t already).
