Just curious if there are any nervous flyers that are more nervous now?

Has todays events made you feel worse or no difference.

I must say I ALWAYS travel with water. I can''t travel without fluids.....

I need it to take my drugs. LOL

We are flying tomorrow morning. Hopefully all will be fine. We are going to go visit our kids who have been away all summer. I can''t wait to see them. They are nervous for us, but I think if anything it will be an even safer day to fly. At least that''s what I keep telling myself.

i''m not nervous. these are things that are totally out of our control. the thought of living life locked up in fear of what might happen seems pretty dismal.

i will miss having my water though! part of keeping my body happy and migraine free during air travel is hydration.

oh well....c''est la vie (nowadays anyway!) of course if the airlines start charging an arm and a leg for on board refreshments, all bets are off. it will be a little more difficult to roll with it then.

No problem flying.

It''s the landing that concerns me...

Seriously, there is a risk to everything - and the risk associated with flying is pretty good; and safer than driving.

Honestly after today, I''d be a bit nervous flying in the next few weeks. It''s true that the average citizen can never accurately predict a terrorist attack, but with the events of today, there''s no way to know if all of the individuals have been apprehended. They brought in something like 20 some males -- who''s to say there aren''t more involved that could still carry out plans on a smaller scale, even with heightened security?

Today someone griped to me about it being ridiculous not being allowed to bring lotion and hair gel on the airplane anymore. I understand the inconvenience, I always carry lotion on the plane with me as it''s so dry, but the restriction of these items are now necessary. They''re not allowing you to bring drinks on the plane now, because the plans were to conceal the gel explosives in a sports drink. Unbelievable. Do you know the part that I don''t like? I think public opinion/backlash will be so harsh that eventually they''ll lax security again, allow lotions, sports drinks, electronic key fobs -- and the next terrorists won''t be so unlucky with being caught.

For those of you flying very soon, don''t forget to get there SUPER early -- today there were 4+ hour long lines through the security checkpoints, even here at BWI. I wish you a safe flight!

I more worried about the tsa goons and the looney tunes working at the airport than terrorists.
Once in the air its the safest part of the trip.

I''m not nervous about flying at all. There are dangers and risks even when you leave the house in your car. If you let these things keep you from traveling and living your life then the terrorists really have won.

No. I''m more in danger when I get into my car. I live in America. Americans can NOT drive.

For those of you that need water, can''t you get it from the flight attendant? Nonalcoholic drinks were always free for me. It''s the food that airlines are charging for now.

I'm a road warrior, and travel about 60% of the time for biz. I'm flying tomorrow morning to Nashville, returning on Saturday, and then back out Monday morning to Knoxville. UGH!

Getting on a plane is second nature for me, so NO i'm not really nervous about flying.

I NEVER check bags, but am going to have to start doing it or else what am I supposed to do about my toiletries? Yes, all the newest resistrictions suck but I'll deal. Everyone is doing the best they can to make air travel safe, and I'll do my part to comply with the TSA folks.

What is gonna be a pain in the butt is going thru security with all those clueless people who will ignore the restrictions and will try to bring that stuff on board. Those lines are bad enough as it is, and I have NO patience for un-savvy travelers! I love it when they have special lanes for frequent travelers, and I hope they continue that practice- especially in light of today's events. Yep, I'm a travel snob!

What makes me nervous is my husband on the subway and in penn station every day. flying is the least of my worries! unfortunately...It's a sad, sad state of affairs we are in...

I''m not worried about it. I also flew this morning, from Chicago. It was insane, security lines were wrapped around the whole terminal, but amazingly I caught my flight. I can''t imagine how long it would''ve taken me to get through security if I wasn''t able to take a shortcut. I posted a lengthy rundown in Strm''s thread, here. I was surprised at how prepared and calm everyone seemed to be (security and gate agents). Then again, this was around 7:30am so they had the whole day to become frazzled. I agree that flying is safer than driving, although it''s scary at a time like this. Apparently another terrorist was arrested at O''Hare while I was there...not sure if he''s connected to this plot or not. Anyway, I was sad about having to toss my water because I always need water with me but I survived, and it''s a small price to pay to ensure everyone''s safety imho. =)

I confess, I don''t think I could go without a whole lot of water on a plane nowadays. I''ve been flying all my life . . . flew to Australia when I was less than one year old, and I used to be fine with it, but recently I''ve been getting dehydrated and dizzy when in small, hot spaces like music clubs or airplanes. On the flight to France I stupidly drank beforehand and woke up on the plane shaky and sick. I almost threw up and/or passed out in the tiny little bathroom (neither ever actually happens, it''s just the sense that it will that is so awful). I wonder if it could be my birth control pills (taking for 5 years) or my Claritin D (2 or 3 years).

So anyway, I definitely need lots of water on the plane. My husband said that maybe you can still bring on water that you bought in the airport stores after clearing security, but I don''t know. You know how they leave out those 2 liter or so bottles on long flights for anyone to help themselves to at the bathroom? Well, I basically need my own bottle to not feel sick. I worry that if I weren''t near the bathroom or were stuck in the middle of the row, I wouldn''t get the water I need and it wouldn''t be pretty.

I''ve decided to name the sick feeling that I get "Billy." Or more specifically, "The Billy." Last night at a club that was super hot and crowded I got "The Billy" while attending a concert. I told DH that I had "the Billy" and went over by the window and sat down for the rest of the concert and drank two waters. DH sweetly sat by me because at a famous other concert in the same club, I actually did pass out (only time) for lack of water. Perhaps I should check with a doctor about this nausea/feeling faint thing because it never happened when I was younger. Anyone else experience this? I''m thinking it''s the Claritin D due to the time of the onset.

It''s very frustrating. DH says I''m the toughest person he knows, but it''s only emotionally, because with my stupid nausea thing I am a weakling physically. And then I become this stupid needy woman who has to sit by the window to not collapse in a heap.

The funny thing is that I never throw up. Never say never, I know, but after childhood when I got those stomach bugs I''ve only gotten sick once in high school, once in college, and once post college, and they were all clear instances of food poisoning (last time I had to make myself get sick because it just wasn''t happening, and my dad had eaten the same food and also gotten sick so I was sure it was bad food). So I just get this horrible feeling that I will get sick, but it never really happens, but I become incapable of doing anything but drinking great quantities of water and sitting around like a big wimp.

unfortunately, no. not even that. they specifically listed it as not allowable.

i''m like you, i need my water. i too have spent what should have been a great concert night sidelined by dizziness. i can always attribute it to not eating or drinking enough that day. i try to really be careful and listen to my body to prevent it before it happens but it doesn''t always work. i am more careful these days but not being able to carry on my own drink is just going to be another bump in the road. for the safety of the nation, i will deal.

They must give you water once you''re up in the air, that would be crazy if they didn''t. Especially on longer flights. May not be the bottled water but water they pour in a cup?? Even on a short flight I need water. I drink water all day, and carry it with me where ever I go. And what if you need to take medicine?? You''d need water then.

I''m nervous and I''m not even flying. Flying is not a sensation I like anyway, but, pair that with terrorists and I need some meds or at least Benadryl and a cocktail! We have family flying from D.C. to LAX. That flight always makes me very nervous. I''ll be sitting on pins and needles until the flight tracker says they have landed!

Every flight I''ve been on, they do. Domestic, international, short hop, cross country. Just don''t be shy and ask the flight attendants. I''ve never been turned down. Even when it''s not during the normal "beverage service" time.

Just explain you get dehydrated easily and they may just hand you the bottle of water. They always give me the whole can of coke whenever I ask.

oh yeah, this hasn''t changed. they will still offer water in flight, you just can''t bring on your own. that''s why it isn''t a *huge* deal except that i usually drink a lot of water (like..many offerings worth!) and would just rather bring my own. especially since i would rather drink gatorade or fuze or some other ''souped up'' drink that i bring along. again, it''s no biggie, just an inconvenience (until they start charging a pretty penny for that inflight water!)

I have not liked flying since I was little. The aerodynamics just freak me out, that this huge thing lifts off...good think it was not up to me or we would still be in caves. I KNOW it is statistically safer than driving, etc, but tell that to my nerves. rThat said, after stuff like this I am always a bit more nervous. I know security will be tighter, yes, but to me, there could be insiders who work in the airports...these terrorists are patient people. Anytime someone does not mind dying to accomplish their aims, you are in trouble. I was supposed to go to England last summer, leaving 7/6 and landing in London the morning of 7/7. Something told me not to go, and the London bombings are what I woke up to. I do not fly a lot, but hate it when I have to, even before terrorism became so prevalent. I just cannot imagine these terrible people wanting to blow up so many innocent people. Just too awful to contemplate.

Also, I think that they will still serve drinks, people can dehydrate so badly on planes that it is a health risk, especially on longer flights. I am sure they will make sure things are loaded sealed on the plane. They just want to control what is coming on the plane via passengers.

I''ve also never really enjoyed flying. I''m always a nervous wreck until we''re stopped at the gate. But, with today''s events, I''m not any more nervous than I''ve always been. I figure my life is in the hands of the Good Lord and he''ll take me when he''s ready for me. So, I don''t have anything to worry about.

I'm not flying anywhere in the near future, though I'll definitely think twice before booking a trip to London anytime soon.

My best friend's mom and sister were on an international flight from Paris to Philly this morning, so she was more than a bit concerned as the news was breaking. Fortunately they made it back with no problems. Now she is actually flying out to LAX from Philly tonight, and as of 9pm her flight was nearly 4 hours delayed.

Other good friends of our family are vacationing in London right now, scheduled to fly back to Dulles on Saturday. We are praying all goes well for them... but like someone else said, it is likely to be even safer now than it was before. Still, that is small comfort for the people forced to endure a 10 hour flight across the Atlantic, wondering who their fellow passengers are.

ETA - My friend just texted me from onboard her plane at the Philly airport... it's 11:30pm, and they are still on the ground, 16th in line to take off... almost 6 hours delayed from their original 6pm departure time. UGH! The good news... she said they just made an announcement that flight attendants would be coming around with water, and everyone cheered!

I think it would be scary, looking around and wondering, and hoping the screeners really did their jobs...

I''ve always found that they won''t give you ENOUGH water... they really don''t want people up in the aisles to go to the lavatory very often... I just flew across country in first class and had to almost beg for water. Sure, I could have all the drinks I wanted, but water was a "precious comodity" and I was so freakin'' dehydrated when I go to CA I was miserable. My last trip to Paris was even worse... they''d give us about 4 oz. an hour and that just wasn''t enough for an 8 hour flight.

I''m really not happy about this... I wear contacts and won''t be able to wear them in flight now because I require eyedrops on a plane and those aren''t allowed anymore unless they''re prescription. Also, the "no electronics" thing is bad too... no ipod, no laptop, no dvd player... while we may "live through that" who would honestly want to trust the baggage handlers with their laptop??? No thank you! And I can''t imagine all those poor kids and parents on the trans-atlantic flights with no way to entertain their kids... they weren''t allowed to bring any of the kids toys or anything... maybe my ADD is showing but UGH!!! I would be bored within 5 minutes!!!

I''m really glad my CA vacation was last week... we carried on a 4-bottle wine carrier and from what I understand that would not be allowed now. Having spent a pretty penny on the wine, I would have been livid if I couldn''t have returned home with it... it would have broken in that packaging if I had checked it since it wasn''t a shipping container.

Between the higher costs of tickets these days and this new no liquids rule, I''m thinking about postponing any fall trips until they get this sorted out. I live and work in the DC metro area and believe me, I understand the threats, but I think we''re over-reacting at this point.

I have been asked that question by a lot of people today since I just booked my ticket last night, but no I am not nervous. As others have stated...this is mostly for our protection and we just need to work with them :}
I am sure you will be served beverages on the plane...always have been and I am sure even now they are making them even more accessible seeing as one can not bring their own. I am sure they will accommodate those they have inconvenienced :} Let''s give them credit ;} giggle..
Kaleigh...have safe and wonderful trip (hugs) and we will see yas when you get home. And maybe either you or IrishAngel can let us know about the fluids situation.

I added an ETA to my post above, but just wanted to address the water issue... my friend just texted me from onboard a Southwest flight out of Philly (still on tarmac, 16th in line to take off and currently 6 hours delayed), and apparently passengers ARE being provided with water. She said the whole plane erupted in clapping and cheers when the announcement was made.

Over-reacting?! Seriously? I totally disagree. Any precautions they think we should take, I''m all for it. Perhaps we should just check all of our luggage and not be able to take anything carry-on. Yes it is an inconvenience, but I''ll do anything I''m able to keep those loonies from carrying explosives onto a plane. We are at war, and this is a small thing we can do to protect America compared to our soldiers who are courageously fighting first hand for us.

See, the airports and TSA are on our side!

They''re trying to help us and protect us, not kill us by dehydration.

Where did you hear this? I haven''t heard anything about no electronics. Britain wasn''t allowing key fobs, but that''s about it.

I've been flying almost every another month to see my parent's. ( it's about 10 hour flight)
well I hate to ride air plane, I always have to take medicine .
but
I'm not nervous ESP now. I had flight after couple days Sep /11.
the security was really strict ever , even ONLY 7 passenger in Jumbo jet ( which carry more than 500)

On flights to and from the UK I think the electronics are banned. Supposedly the bombs were going to be "mixed" on board, with each passenger involved bringing on a different element. The detonator was going to be in a camera, hence, no I Pods, cell phones etc. I totally get it, but with three kids, a long flight would be awful without the personal dvd player and the music. Hopefully they will figure out a way to screen these items for anything out of the ordinary. I also hate being without my cell phone, in case there is an emergency or something, I like to have the phone with me. But we will have to deal with this to keep us safe. I hate the idea of it, but it is what we have to do.
