I''ve been hoping to do a tunnel of sparklers when we exit our reception ... but, silly me, didn''t exactly PRICE that out ''til now. OUCH.

The "long lasting" ones are about $150 for 100
The "okay lasting" ones are about $70 for 100

They recommend getting TWICE as many as people (we''re having 80-100 folks) but that starts getting crazy for just SPARKLERS ... not to mention, we''d have to have matches & stuff to light them.

Anyone done it?? Results? Worth it??

I LOVE the idea of using sparklers. But then, I''m planning on getting married on July 4th too.....lol

They look beautiful! Is your venue ok with you using them? I know my venue wouldnt told us before we signed the contract that we couldnt use things like that.

Here is a website with a bunch of different kinds

i was going to do it, until everyone started freaking out that i''d end up with a burned my dress. or veil, or me.
my friends were going to do it, but the french quarter (new orleans) has some sort of ordinance against fire, flames or sparks. so, i have yet to see it in action.

I had sparklers and I bought them from www.skylighter.com. They had good prices and it had a recommendation for what to use for weddings. They were quick to ship. I think I ordered ~125 for 1 per person.

I don''t know anyone whose done it, but we had sparklers on the 4th and FI''s sister got them at the dollar store. We got ours at a fireworks store, and the dollar store ones were much nicer. If you look around, you might be able to find them much cheaper.

DON''T DO IT!! I too once thought it was a great idea until I went to a wedding that had them. Drunk people and fire is NOT a smart thing. They dropped a bunch of sparklers and almost started a fire. It is too hard to get them all lit at the same time (they burn out pretty fast). They rarely work.

Deco,

I went to a lovely wedding where they had sparklers and it was amazing. They married on or very near to the 4th at a country club right on a lake. We formed a tunnel right out the doors across the patio and down to the dock where there get away boat was waiting for them. The effect was very impressive and not often done.

I don''t recall any drunk people at the wedding, although there was beer and wine. I guess you just have to consider what you think your guests will do.

I absolutely LOVE the idea of the sparklers. And it photographs SOOO well, IMO. The first venue FI and I have toured (and loved) allows it, so it''s a potential for our exit. As for the "drunk guests" we aren''t serving alcohol at our reception, so that won''t be a problem!

A June wedding I attended in California (Santa Cruz) had them. The MOH had little buckets of sand prepared in case anything went wrong. The photographs turned out lovely, but at the time, many of us were choking from the smoke.

I''ll be getting married in a Japanese garden, that venue doesn''t allow sparklers. =(

ALL your pix & that birdcage veil!! I''m still considering one too. Thanks for sharing!

Hmmmmm. Food for thought. THANKS GUYS! I think we''re gonna try it.

Our venue is okay with it. We have extra "event" insurance. Big outdoor area ... barn ... etc. And as far as alcohol''s concerned - we''re only serving beer & hard cider in bottles ... so I''m hopeful "drunk" won''t gonna happen in three hours.

Little buckets of sand are a good idea (*groan* adding it to the long long long long list of "To Do" in the next - *yikes* MONTH!)

I went to a wedding where it was done, and it was beautiful! The had a few buckets of sand sort of lining the way to the going away car, so there was one near everyone. The sparklers were lit by the personalized matchbooks which were favors! Perfect idea, IMO. Everyone having matches also made the whole timing thing better. I believe thay used run-of the-mill sparklers, but they had plenty in case any didn''t light or burned too quickly.

Make sure that you "test light" a sparkler before the wedding. The wedding I was at there was no way that you could light the sparklers with a match. They had those lighter gun things which worked well. Also, the buckets of sand are a must. You need to have somewhere to put the hot sparklers when they are done.
