Anyone want to hazard a guess on whether this veil will go with my dress?

Hello, lovely brides-to-be! Long time, no post!
35.gif

I hadn''t been sure about the veil my dress saleslady tried to sell me--she kept saying my veil would need "a bit of sparkle" to match my dress, but the veil she had that she thought matched best didn''t really tickle me. Not that it was bad, but her "bit of sparkle" was the occasional sequin sewn into the veil, which I wasn''t crazy about.

Well, looking online today I found what looks to be (to me) the ideal veil--instead of "sparkle" we have "shimmer!" The veil itself is described as a two-tier, centre-gathered, edged with tubular glass iridescent bugle beads, hand sewn along the entire edge of the veil. The veil material itself is available in two colours which appeal: ivory and ivory shimmer (the latter which appeals the most to me).

I have requested fabric samples to make sure that the look of the shimmer fabric is of a nice quality, and to make sure the colour is correct.

Below I will attach pictures of the veil and then my dress, so you can tell me if you think it will match or not.

We miiiiiiiiissed you!!!

Sorry to jump in...you''re probably off hunting for pics of your dress. But if I remember it correctly, I think this veil might be just the thing...especially with those shoes you got!!!

very pretty! I think it will be great!

Ditto VC! Missed ya, Gwennie!

Aww, thanks, chickies!!

And yes, I was re-sizing a full dress pic (not sure why it wasn''t already sized for PS but whatev) and then J came home with some flowers for me!

I hurt my back earlier this week, and he''s been taking very care of me.

Anyway, yes, the shoes too!! I think it will go with the shoes too! I hope...let me find a couple more pics, but unless there is some huge fashion no-no about the veil with the dress and shoes, I will probably get this one. Shimmery without sequins--hurrah!

Heehee, yeah, he''s definitely a keeper. And it''s not in his nature to usually do those kinds of things, which makes it all the more special when he does them.

Thanks! My back is doing better--not great, but I am much more mobile than I have been for a few days. And it''s been nice getting to window-shop for wedding stuff to keep myself busy at home.

Gwen! So sorry you hurt your back! I''ve no clue how veils work, so nothing to add there, but was just thinking about you yesterday...yes, not shockingly I was skulking around looking at vintage bands. Have you found a w band yet? I found another sapphire one that has a similar profile to your ring and lrgish, but can''t remember your exact size and then was wondering if you had found one yet? lmk! (here or on that other site for chatting)

I think that veil would look great with your dress! Although, are you opposed to having a veil with just a plain raw edge? Just because you have so much gorgeous beading and details on your dress, I wonder whether they''re necessary on the veil, or even whether they''d kind of detract from the dress? Probably not - I think I just naturally lean toward plain veils. But I think the one you posted, with just beading on the trim, would look amazing!

I hope your back feels better ASAP!

sorry about your back! hope you feel better soon!

i think the veil you posted would look beautiful! i also think that a veil with some of the lace that is on the sleeves would be beautiful. maybe if the lace was just along the bottom of the veil...not like a mantilla or anything. i think the most gorgeous part of your dress is the sleeves so it''d be great to highlight that!

Gwen! So good to "see" you around these parts.

I like the veil you linked, but with your dress I would almost think a veil with lace on it would go a bit better. Regardless of what you choose, you are going to look GORGEOUS on your wedding day!

Hey sweetie!!! Nice to see you around here!
35.gif

While it''s a really beautiful veil, IMO I would go with a very simple veil, raw edge maybe? So as to not detract from the beautiful detail in your dress KWIM?

I have to agree...I think finding a sheer veil to match the netting on the sleeves would be beautiful. I don''t think you need lace or anything, just a smiple raw edge.

Gosh, I love your dress. I mean, I remember when you got it, but it is still just so gorgeous.

i''m with charbie and honey, however let us know how the fabrics look near eachother once you get the sample!

again, i love your dress! you look so beautiful in it!! :)

Gwen I think it will look beautiful personally I don''t like raw edged veil''s the ones I saw looked unfinished but I think the little subtle pearl detail will match beautifully the other option would be a lace edged veil but that could end up looking like to much :)

Good choice I would though take the same of the veil to match to the dress to just make sure the colours match but apart from that I think you have a winner :) YAY.

I think the veil would match beautifully.

Hey, ladies!! Thanks again for all your input, and for welcoming me back so nicely.

Ok, about a lace-edged veil--I have looked and looked (because the dress maker doesn''t do a matching veil) and the only lace veils I have found a) aren''t the same sort of lace (and maybe won''t ever be, since the lace on the dress is handmade?) b) have HUGE lace trim, and I want something more subtle than that.

Also, am not a huge fan of the raw edge veil. Part of why I want a veil in the first place is because of that lovely, wavy way the fabric falls, and having some sort of edging is what makes that wavy effect work (at least for me).

I think the shimmery veil will match without being very matchy-matchy. At least, that''s the hope. It''s much better than the bridal shop veil, at any rate--that one was just not me at all.

Those of you who recommended the raw edge veil, do you think this one would look busy with my dress?

I agree with everyone in going for a plain veil however I love the one that you chose. Its simple but has a little bit of detail that ties into your wonderful dress.

Whatever you choose im sure it will look amazing!

Hope your back feels better soon!

Hey, Gwen! So good to see you around again. Your dress looks lovely--very romantic.

I don''t pretend to know anything about veils, but I think lace-edged would be pretty, especially if you could get some very similar to your dress (delicate, not full on mantilla).

Hi Gwen!!! Love the dress and the veil! I think they''ll be beautiful together (and even more so on you! :) It would be nice if you could see them together though... just so you can get a feel for it. have you not seen anything like it where you are?

Glad your back posting, Gwen! I was wondering where you went!!!!

I think that veil would look stunning with your dress. It has dimension with the tiers, and the beads give it just enough oomph without being overpowering and taking away from the dress.

I wish you a speedy recovery from your back injury!

Hi Gwen

im glad you''re back, id been looking for you!

Im sorry about your back

hope it feels better soon...

As for the veil -
30.gif
it! I think it will go perfectly with your dress...your dress is so ethereal and pretty and it has just enough ethereally-ness and shimmer to match but not detract. That makes no sense
9.gif
i dont know how to put it but i think it matches very well, once you check the fabric you''ll be set i reckon

Hi, my lovelies!! Thank you so much for your comments. The fabric samples came today and the ivory shimmer material is very subtly shimmery, and seems to match my ivory shoes, which match my dress, so I am 99% sure I will be getting this veil. Yay!

Thank you again for your help, and your well-wishes for my back, which is doing quite a lot better now.

Everything looks beautiful. The veil would look great with your dress. Welcome back too.
