OK! Now that we have a new house, I'm remodeling the kitchen. I need to pick my appliances first. I need it all.
I'm not spending on a Thermador, etc....but I can spend to get a fairly nice appliance...I love the look of Jenn Air but they get mixed reviews...
Frig must be bottom freezer

1. Do I want counter depth frig? What are the pros and cons (I'm assuming less space in counter depth)...
2. Do I want internal or external water dispenser
3. Do I want french door or one door frig?
3. What are your fav brands...

Frig- no more than $3000
Double oven- no more than about $3000
Dish Washer- no more than $1000

Thanks.

I actually have had great experience w/ Jenn-Air, have bought it in stainless steel for 3 different homes so far, also recommend Kitchen-Aid. I've also had Thermador, Wolf and Viking and have noticed nothing major in any of them.
I recommend Bosch ALL THE WAY on dishwasher. It doesn't use heat to dry so it saves a ton on en electirc. It uses the very hot water combined w/ the fast dry stuff you add and cleans dried food off forks and bowls

Are you able to get these at decent prices, or retail?
I'm guessing external water dispenser means the water dispenser in the door? I've never heard of an internal one{?}

I'll come back w/ links of my recent purchases, we just replaced some in this home in the last 10 months.

.... just noticed freezer on bottom pre-req. . . I'd do one door on the fridge then, a split door breaks up the space too much in this configuration IMO.

I just have a sec here so I''ll be quick.

YES!!! You do want a counter depth. Repeat after me...I want a counter depth fridge!

Unless yours is out of the way. It seems like most houses have the big ugly fridge right out in the open, though. Hmmmm, maybe that''s for usability, but, cummon...It''s ugly! You can always get a small garage fridge for extra stuff.

I''d get an external water dispenser. I know, it really punches up the ugly factor, but, think of how often the fridge would be opened to get a glass of water. For us (and three kids) that''s ummm, constantly. All of my food would be rotten!

I like french door fridge because they seem to keep a little more of the cold in, JMO.

My fav brand is NOT Kitchen-Aid. I can tell ya that. I got the Kitchen Aid fridge because it accepted cabinet panels (and that was a MUST for me) and it is junky flimsy quality. It works fine. If you don''t count the fact that I cannot open the veggie drawer completely because the door is in the way. Buy the product with the best reviews. I''d check Consumer Reports.

MMM, I think counter depth is important. I do like the french door look but it''s not a must. I also like the *look* of the internal water/ice but if you use it a ton external would be easier. I would go to Queen City, they actually wheel and deal there. They will also price match. We have a Jenn Air stove top and dishwasher. Both have worked well for us so far. My mom LOVES her kitchen aid dishwasher.

Thanks guys! It dawned on me that since I''m starting from scratch, I am going to do away with the cook top and put a range there, and then can do a microwave/oven combo (which is what I wanted anyway)...The only thing is...there is electric for the oven. Hmmm. That''s a bummer so I might want to run a gas line. Thanks again...

HI:

I love my Bosch ceramic top convection range and DW. My large LG french door fridge is also great as I like the set up with freezer on the bottom. We had to amend our cupboard slightly (remove a facade) since the fridge was taller than our old one, and I worried that the french doors would open too close to our island, but it worked out very well.

My sister put GE monogram series in her new house and loves them. Double convention ovens and seperate ceramic cooktop. Very smart.

Have fun shopping! (I don't know why I find shopping for appliances exciting but I do....

LOL..Believe me...I do too..it''s almost 1 am and I''m looking online. I''m thinking of just getting a 36 inch range and no double oven...either a Thermador or Jenn Air or Kenmore. They all get mixed reviews...Ugh LOL

HI:

I know what you are saying. With the LG we were impressed with the top energy and "quiet" rating (our old one was a horrid noisy thing...
6.gif
). Don't know why we ended up with the Bosch--the technology I guess. And appearance--if truth be told my DH walked by it and said, we'ree getting this too....(we went shopping for only a DW).........

Miele makes a great DW--very higly rated (noise, energy, etc) and very efficient as well, but with our sink in the IIsland and we could not accomodate the mechanism needed by the Miele. I was rather sad as this was my first choice.

My sister loves her double wall ovens. Really handy--she really bakes a lot and boy have they come in handy when she entertains. Honesly, if I did a kitchen remake, I'd do the same.....I think her microwave is build in as well.....

ETA: my neighbour has Jenn Air (cooktop) and they bought it in speciifc b/c of the efficient system to remove cooking odors--it is vented right outside their kitchen. Also I do find it is bit noisy when I am outside, it works very well and they love it. She told me she would buy it again.

cheers--Sharon

Double wall ovens is on my list of requirements for my next house. How many times have you had that big honkin'' turkey in the oven, and you can''t even fit in a dish for stuffing or whatever else......

For fridge, what about GE profile or Monogram, built in? I have heard they are nice.

As for water in the door, if you have young kids you could end up cleaning up a lot of water on the floor.

Asko, Bosch and Miele all make models of their dishwashers that are about 1000.00. I am sure there are also places that discount.

We are building a new house soon and I went to the tile and kitchen showroom yesterday in downtown Philadelphia and I was a bit overwhelmed by it all, a lot has changed since I built my current house 8 years ago.

I work for a homebuilder and price appliances for our customers every day. If I had my choice of all brands out on the market, I''d go with KitchenAid. They''re made by the same company as Jenn-Air (Whirlpool Corp.), but I like their look and features better. For dishwashers, I have a fully integrated model at home (controls on the top of the door instead of the front) and I absolutely love the clean look. I''d definitely want that again. As for the counter-depth, it really is only an issue if you have cabinetry on either side of your refrigerator. If so, it helps the fridge blend in and not stick out. Otherwise, I wouldn''t get it. I like the interior configurations of the non-counter-depth ones better - it seems like you can get more stuff in them. The water dispenser is totally a matter of personal preference. I prefer it in the door for convenience.

Lastly, I just wanted to add that I have GE Profile appliances in my house (house came with them already), and so far I love them. They work great and look great.

Bosch does make a good dishwasher, and they are very quiet, but there are a few things to be aware of if you buy a European brand. A lot of them don't have heated drying. Personally, that's an important feature. Also, they tend to not have a hard food disposer. What that means is that any food particles, instead of being ground up and passed through the water line, collect in a little filter at the bottom. Every now and then, you'd need to clean out the filter. Personally, that sounds very eeewww!!! to me.

I am not sure that is true. I have had Miele and Asko, and both are super good cleaners, in fact, I was told NOT to scrape food off as I was used to. I had one over 7 years and never had an issue. They also use less water. My machines both had heated drying, though I did have the top of the line models. They are super quiet and I think clean superiorly.

HI:

I almost dropped my wine glasses for the heat, taking them out of the D/W right after the cycle was finished. Ouch!

I tend to rinse my dishes, so cleaning the filter at the bottom is not a scary deal in my experience.

My GF hated her Asko--but maybe she got a dud. No end of problems mechanically, poor cleaner..etc, etc.... Everyone has a story, no?

cheers--Sharon

Hey guys!!! Thanks for much for the tips....Well, the verdict is in....

I got the :
Jenn Air frig ....
GE Monogram double oven where the top one is also a microwave!!! It rules e/t it was more than the 3 grand...worth it...
The dishwasher turned out to be KitchenAid (thinking about the GE monogram) with food grinder where there is no food on the bottom

The one thing left is cook top..it is electric b/c I''m just more cofortable with that...

Anyone have a Kenmore cooktop? GE cooktop? Here are the two. I like the look of the Kenmore but maybe the GE is more practical. Thoughts?

GE

cooktop2.jpg

GE monogram advantium microwave/oven and bottom oven!

I won't post the frig b/c it's the usual jenn-air style. Went with single door for ease of opening while cooking .

Thanks again to all!

Does anyone know anything about Electrolux appliances?

You guys are going to laugh- I''ve never had a dishwasher before. If it is fully integrated, how do you stop it if you want to leave the house or something?

HI:

It is safe to leave the cycle to finish in your absence. What is your concern, MMM? (btw, you can open the door anytime during a cycle)....

I''ve just never had one before LOL...

Hi, I didn't read all the replies, so I hope I am not being too redundant -

I have been looking at appliances myself - I wanted to mention that the french doors look great and are fun to open, but if you really look at the doorspace in those, you will find that there is a SERIOUS lack of doorspace - the same fridge in a french door (3 door including freezer door) vs. the same in a two door offers an unbelievable difference in door space so make sure to take this into account! We are actually getting the two door because of this.

I have heard that getting water dispenser just gives one more thing to break (and uses up a lot of interior space for the equipment). My personal preference is that I prefer the smoother/cleaner look of no water dispenser - however if I had kids perhaps I would feel differently!

Pick the fridge, then match the oven/dishwasher to it - dishwashers such as Bosch, Thermador (made by Bosch), Miele, Asko.

Is your double oven going to be a wall built in, or is it going to be a regular oven with side by side ovens?

ETA: Sorry - I read all the replies now and realize my post was after the fact - congrats on your new appliances!!

having a dishwater is going to CHANGE your life! Congrats on the new appliances. Have you moved in yet?

I have Thermador appliances and I have been pretty pleased with them. The only adjustment for me was cooking with gas and that was relatively easy. I did choose the Dish Drawers instead of the traditional dishwasher and mine are made by Fisher & Paykel but KitchenAid also makes the drawers.

Penn, I much prefer cooking with gas. Every time I use electric burners I burn the food. In my new home I am putting two dishwashers in the main kitchen, normal non drawer ones, and one in our cabana and one in our home theater/wine/entertainment area downstairs. I am now leaning towards the dish drawers with cabinetry fronts in the butlers pantry and bar area. I have heard they are really better at cleaning glassware, the kitchen lady down in the design center here has told me this, and I thought it was the perfect option for those two areas.
