If you want a unbiased third party appraiser, try someone who does not sell jewelery, like any of the aprraisers listed at the top of the page, where it says "appraisers"above the PS toolbar.

Also, not on the list, but I use Bruce Haberman at www.gemlab.com He's great! Good luck!

Robert Aretz and David Wolff....

Not exactly--I know I made a convenient appointment without any fuss, his fee depended on the carat weight of the stone in question (it was more for my 1.65 than for my 1.4--possibly a jump after 1.5?), and it was in the $100-$200 range. Sorry I can't remember more specifically--but it probably depends on what exactly you need him to do for you, anyway.

I liked him a lot. Nice guy. The first time I went he had an extremely nice apprentice helping him, too.
