Just a quick fly by, but I had to share this and are my peeps!

Visited it briefly today over lunch. Forgive the lousy pictures and the really lousy nail color, LOL! I've got a slew of setting ideas, but there may be an "easy answer" on this one (more on that later).

YIKES -- Attack of the Giant Dry Skinned Hand! Sorry!!!

In the second pic the stone is just sitting on top of a setting... that I really like! I think it's actually my Plan B as of now, right behind a different setting that might or might not work (I'll see tomorrow). Plan C is custom, but how easy and refreshing would it be NOT to have to go custom yet again!!!

The stone is not as dark in real life as it is in these pics. Once I get it I'll do better -- I promise!

OMG yes @Dee*Jay !!

I was hoping you would get a ruby to go with your green goddess and big blue! and you did NOT disappoint!!!

Share lots more pics and specs of the ruby please!! I loooooove that color

Another beautiful gem to add to your gorgeous collection. :kiss2:
I can’t wait to see more pics!

Thank you Sprinkles!

All the credit here goes to Ilya! He went off to the Tucson gem show with my list of requirements...
- at least 3 cts
- not heated
- not windowed
- not orange
- not brown
- not purple
- not pink
(I'm starting to sound like Dr. Seuss, LOL... )

There were a couple of options (poor guy, I think he sent me videos and we talked every single day he was gone, haha), but this was the winner!

8.44 x 7.97 and very clean.

I had some setting ideas but once I saw it I realized I might be able to "cheat" a round setting, so I want to explore that option and see if I can get the one I really love to work.

Mreader made reference in another thread to a potential unheated ruby as completing my trifecta, so that's what I've kind of named it. :cheeky:

Elle (Queen of CS!) I will get more/better pics! These few were snapped quickly when I just zipped by, and the office lighting is not at all flattering, but I'll improve on this, I promise!

Just beautiful and totally perfect for Valentine's Day!

You sound so excited, @Dee*Jay, and it's contagious! I'm just thrilled for you... enjoy your new stone and have fun with the setting process!!

Oh my gosh the tag did not work and I did not see that you had mentioned to me until just now. And because I didn’t even remember saying that I was about to say “now you have the trifecta of gemstones“. !

Thank you DiamondGirl! It's not often I get to match my gems to the day!

I AM excited Autumn! The setting process started the instant Ilya sent me the video on this stone, LOL.

Mreader!!! Yes, you have named the new baby! I can't even remember the thread we were talking about this in, but it totally stuck in my head.

Is it a round or an oval or cushion, as it looks like a round in the pic where the stone is sitting in the setting, hence the question?

DK :))

Beautiful! And your hands are lovely.

DK, it's a cushion, but it's sitting on a setting for a round stone just to see what it would look like. The setting that I really love is also for a round stone, but I'm not sure if it's going to work not. Fingers crossed that I go in there tomorrow and looks good!

Dorthean, you are a gem (no pun intended!). Every time I post a pic it comes out absolutely enormous... and then I get a close up of my hands and wonder why I never paid more attention to sun screen!!!

Got it, thanks!

It is a lovely stone, thanks for sharing!

Happy Valentine's Day to you! Looking forward to seeing it set.

I can't wait to see more pics - and then how you have it set.

Pretty! Sounds like quite the scavenger hunt!

Looks more oblong than this in your hand shots -- like > 5% difference in dimensions. How deep, if you do not mind my asking?

Gorgeous ruby! Can’t wait to see your finished ring.

Your Plan B setting is perfect for that beautiful stone. Wow to both the ruby and ring!

Happy (belated) VD Donna!

Thank you Bright&Shiny!

LilAlex, I think the "illusion" comes in because the "sides" curve outward rather than being straight, so it's more rounded. Depth is 4.71.

Thanks Marcy! And you get bonus points for taking this ride with me, haha!

FoxinSox, I was surprised by how good the stone looked with that setting. Soooo tempting to go with something that exists in real life and not just in my head!

I just need to mention that I love that you went to visit your ruby.
It's adorable. And how awesome is it that they have as many settings as they do?! I'm excited to see more pics.

Oh wow, gorgeous! I love the color and the size is perfect!

As Richard Hughes elegantly said, what fluorescent tubes (zero red in the spectrum) do to rubies should be outlawed. That is in fact the reason I stopped having red stones delivered at the office, it was always a huge disappointment.

Please do show us how it looks in ANY other lighting ;)

ItsMainlyYou -- hahahahaha! That's the "problem" with being just a couple of blocks away from them... I can visit any time. And I DO!

Running, the size I think is going to work out well. At first the Size Ho in me was like... uhhhhhhhh... but now I'm OK with it LOL.

Vivid, you're so right! The office lighting does colored stones absolutely no favors. Even Big Blue and The Green Goddess looked bad there, and poor Trifecta was the worst of the three in that environment. At least the video Ilya had sent me from the gem show was much better, or else I would have been quite disappointed. I promise more -- better! -- photos as soon as it's done.

Annnnnnnd... we have a setting plan! The mounting that I've been in love with for ages is the winner! With a few modifications -- of course. :cheeky: But it's such a great thing to see pretty much what it will look like when it's done rather than walking around the house with a cut-out of the CAD taped to my finger.

Here is Trifecta just sitting on the mounting that's going to be used for the basis of the design. This is not at all where I thought I would go with this stone; I was originally thinking split shank halo three stone with half moons... but you know what they say about making plans -- the jewelry gods laugh!

A three carat ruby is my ultimate dream bling! Congrats and can’t wait to see more pics! Stunning!

Thank you Lambie!

Ilya has already sent me the CAD with the modified design (double claw prongs in the four corners of the stone rather than ten single prongs, and a shape that hugs the stone instead of being "round") so I'm headed toward production!
