I need to find two nice (clear and not white) aquas for a pair of earrings. Want something about .8-1.25 range. Prefer an emerald cut that is almost a square.

Where should I look...anyone know any good dealers.

I have found some wonderful aquas in the Dallas area...however nothing in that size (no 8 carat earrings wanted).

Also, heat treated vs not heat treated...ideas, thoughts. I heard that heat treating a stone will cause it to fade over time.

I believe heat treating is permanent, so it's not something I'd worry about. Fracture filling and dying, on the other hand, are not, so those are treatments to be wary of. The non-heat-treated prices are higher because of rarity value. Me, I want it to look nice, and be sturdy, and the rarity isn't an issue to me, though it is to others.

Anyone know or could recc a dealer who might have what I am looking for...heat treating ok, no pressure filling or dye.

Thanks!

Wink Jones deals with lots of colored stones, and is a poster here. I'm sure he'd be willing to look for you. You can find him via the vendors list at the top of the page.

The best stones you can buy are usually cut by American cutters at home. You may want to look for someone in the US who can cut you some nice deep color Aqua's.

Thank you Tali, your kind words are appreciated!

It should not be a problem to find the stones you are looking for jnt, perhaps a little more difficult in a squarish emerald. To bad you are not looking for concave cut trillions, those I have in house.

As for heat treating, I think you should just about assume that any aquamarine you buy is heat treated. I do not know for sure whether or not all heat treating is detectible on aquas, but I do know that it would be a very rare stone not to be heat treated these days.

(LINK) and one more place to inquire about the perfect pair could well be customgemstones.com. Some deep color aquas have recently been offered by All that Glitters /atggems.homestead.com/files/Gemstone_Pics_Misc1.htm]LINK[/url]"> - but I would guess you need to ask for a pair to be cut from their stock of rough since these are not very often offered by default

as you already know.

And just fyu, this LINK] to two square baguette cuts.

Hope this helps...
