I''m sure there''s no rule, but maybe another way to look at it would be that a ''cocktail ring'' is too big, bold, uncomfortable to be worn everyday, but would be OK at ''dress-up'' events...particularly in the evening.
Actually, I suspect the term itself is dated..

Here is my favorite *cocktail* ring. Does this qualify as one? Or is it a RHR?It''s my 3 ct. tanzanite that I''d like to have reset one of these days. I never was crazy about the princess stones on the sides, and the quality of the setting is not great. I bought it (over 10 years ago) for the color and shape of the tanzanite.
