Hello,
I am looking for a diamond ring for my wife, keeping budget around $5000. I do not have preference in lab grown or natural one. While looking for sometime online, I recently getting some online popup saying, Helzberg diamonds is running holiday discount on many of their products, some at even 50%.
I am very new in this field. I am wondering, if diamond can go on discount even, or this is just a marketing trick (increase price, strike-out and then show less price) ?
I am wondering, if it can give me some price discount, I would dfinitely like to visit store. But I would like to hear from you guys.
Thanks in advance.

So I doubt if everything in that store that is 50% off would be something that you would really want. Not the cut quality that we would recommend around here either.
I have no idea what you have in mind in terms of carat weight, color or clarity. I am just throwing this one out to you as a possible starting point. This is a super ideal cut diamond from Whiteflash, a vendor here that is frequently used. Their diamonds are very well cut and the sparkle is magnificent. This particular diamond is just under a carat and the wire price is just a tad over 5k. You could put this in a simple setting from Whiteflash and it would be beautiful.
If you are interested in a lab diamond, there is a sub forum here on Pricescope dedicated to lab grown diamonds. There are lots of knowledgeable folks there thst would be happy to help you.
So, what do you think of this natural diamond for starters?

Thanks for advice.
I don't have anything in my mind about carat weight, color or clarity. I just know, I will be buying her a ring within 5k range. Guess, I need to learn a lot in this arena :-)

The one you suggested, is looking very beautiful. Reason to buy loose and later fix it in ring, is it more budget reasonable, per your suggestion ?

Secondly, if I search similar specs and search, I see less priced ones too. Is this price difference due to design and brand ? For example, below -

Do you know for sure she wants a round diamond? The second diamond you linked is a cushion.

The first diamond you linked is not as well cut as the one @MissGotRocks posted. Cut is the most important factor in determining how much a diamond sparkles, and the super ideal cut diamonds from vendors like Whiteflash, Brian Gavin Diamonds, and Victor Canera are all cut with extreme precision and come with light return images that prove how well cut they are.

It's a good idea to buy it loose; that way your wife can have a say in the ring design.

Yes, I know she like round one. If I get it loose, then I will look for $4000 diamond.
As I am learning about 'cut' is most important, which factor will determine in choose 'good cut' vs 'less good cut' ?

I recommend reading these two articles which help explain cut and round diamond proportions.

However, the easy way without reading all that is to pick the biggest stone in your budget and color/clarity tolerances at one of the super ideal cut vendors I mentioned above. This stone, for example, would be a good choice.

Hello,

Hi,
I just wanted to point out some tips:

_For an amazing worthy natural diamond nobody gives you more than 5% real discount, But lab-grown ones can have real big discounts like 30%, just like natural ones with poor cut quality

_Very strong fluorescence can lead to a big real discount like 20%

_Any size between 0.30-1 ct is so good for the ring of a lady and depends on your budget

_The cut of the diamond is the most important one, choose how precise you want the diamond cut to be then go for the color, clarity, and carat

_No naked eye gonna tell the difference between lab-grown and natural diamonds the biggest difference is that a natural one with a good certificate is more like an investment (you can sell it years after) a lab-grown one is more like an expense which you won't sell it easily year after

_ If you like lab-grown, buy from Whiteflash and go for "Precision Lab Grown Diamond" with IGI report
_ If you like natural, buy from Whiteflash and go for "A Cut Above" with AGS report
_ The lowest 4Cs you can expect to buy G-I / SI1 / 0.3ct / 3VG (GIA)
Faint/Non fluorescence is the best, don't Go for higher than medium

_ Round brilliant is the most fiery and sparkly cut available, after that go for princess or Cushion (the more precise the cut the more beautiful the diamond is)
A precision-cut natural diamond is a real investment

hope it helps, Let me know if I can help more

Bests

Please please avoid hazelberg and all other mall jewelers. Cut is the most important part of choosing a diamond, as cut will determine how much the diamond sparkles.

Thanks so much for amazing help here. I will look at these options and will post new questions, if I have.

Important to be clear that "cut" as used her on PS goes way beyond Ideal-excellent-very good... etc as describe in most mass-market sites that "educate" buyers about the 4-Cs.

Cut here means very specific proportions and angles and can mean --very-- generous and detailed help from experts here in identifying the best-cut stones.
