Are these too horribly matched for a pair of earrings

OK so I have these aquaprase cabs from Barry. I wanted just one stone back then and Barry had two stones with similar face up sizes so I just bought both. So they are not a matching pair or anything. One has a high dome while the other doesn't. At the time I wasn't too impressed and forgot about these but I'm going through my loose stone stash and I'm trying to get rid of loose stones by setting them. As much as that is possible anyways. Can I set these in a pair of dangly earrings? Or would they look so stupid since one stone is like twice as thick as the other one. What do you think? I thought about buying another cab that will match the higher domed one better but scratched that idea, I don't think I'd be able to find a good matching stone for it and nice cabs are a lot more expensive than I remember now?!

To me personally, yes.

I appreciate earrings don't need to be exact match, however, IMHO, they should at least be close enough to be a good match.

Unfortunately, these are too different as a good match for me.

DK :))

I don't wear earrings myself, but I was wondering if the weight imbalance would bother me, because of the different dome heights.

As a last resort, I am thinking to recut the fat one to make it a better match....which I'm not keen on because I just don't like taking on the task of recutting anything on my end. Plus it seems stupid to recut the high dome one to match an inferior stone. Like I'd be recutting it to get an inferior stone?!?! I'm torn because I really want to minimize anything that is sitting around unset and I'd never use these unless I make earrings.

Could they be fine as a by-pass ring perhaps?

DK :))

Weight imbalance wouldn't be noticeable to me. I'm not toooooo OCD about earrings having to match because I have some that are briolettes, some beads, pearls etc and they are obviously not matched. But here the high dome one is like twice as fat as the other one...I wonder if I can somehow set them in a way to hide that. In a cheap fashion. Don't want to try anything elaborate here...

I'm trying to not do any rings, and do as many earrings as possible instead, or pendants with as many stones as possible. I was actually thinking of combining the cabs with a bunch of faceted stones to "use up" as many stones as possible in a single piece. The number of loose stones and rings I have kind of causes anxiety from time to time and I think I'm going through that phase right now. I think I might do a stacking ring with just the high dome one if nothing else is possible.

What setting would they be in? A certain setting could probably build up the thinner one and have it project outwards more, while the other one could be set deeper. But it might be a type of setting that's not good for that stone or that you don't like, like one that's more covered in at the back? I'm not sure what the options are and I'm a noob with these things but there must be some kind of setting to hide the difference. Might be too complicated though, bit I'm sure it could be done in some way

The only sort-of-simple setting I can think of is a thick bezel. Set one higher up and cover the base of the other one more to equalize the profile a little bit. But I don't know if the face up size will look too different that way. Kind of like this:

I think that's a good idea
do you wear your hair lond or short- up or down, pulled back etc ?

I think you can get away with a lot with earings

The other option is to play up the asymmetry and have one dangle longer than the other. Mismatched earrings seem to be on trend at the moment.

I have long hair but usually pulled back so earrings would be very visible.
