I had meant to post this last week....got busy:)
The October 1 Rap list had some interesting changes.....
There were increases in clarities SI3 ( yes, rap lists this bogus grade as a grade), I1, and I2 in EVERY color grade, from 1.50-10.99cts, both round and fancy shape.
I don't ever recall seeing something like this.....

Thoughts??

No.. Its not something I keep an eye on.

There must be a market for it.

There's definitely a market for it.
I've been an I1 lover forever.
But generally speaking, part of the attraction is the price......so an across-the-board increase is a bit...illustrative. As you've pointed out:)

my original ER (now a pendant) is an I1 and it’s never bothered me.

Is this maybe a reflection of less SI3-i1’s getting cut due to cutting effort going into lab diamonds instead?

Fortunately doesn't affect me because I'd rather have a clean lab diamond over a natural I1. However, I prefer natural diamonds that are well cut and that have good clarity.

IMO, this is a BS grade... then why not a VS-3 grade too?

“Opalescent?”

Salt and pepper is super popular.

Two things:
There are shortages of all sorts of diamonds at the moment. We have seen prices rocket up this year. So it make sense that some buyers are pushing higher or lower in the goods they need coming up to Christmas.
Secondly, there is a real market for SI3 goods. There are probably 200 times more diamonds sold that are in this category than PriceScopers quality diamonds sold every year (although the PS quality are worth 3 times more per stone).
Those goods get graded by shonky labs, or not graded at all. And that is quite fair, because Joe and Jill can see for themselves what they are buying - the color, clarity and milkyness are apparent to all.
Over time LGD's will cannibalise that market.
I suspect that desperate holdouts that refuse to sell 'fake' diamonds are going that way to try to compete.

And that makes the profit margin higher for the SI3-I1’s on the lower quantities they decide to make available for those who choose to stay with mined.
