I''ve been trying to decide this lately. Since I am not allowed to take time off over the summer, I''ll probably only be "home", near wedding location, at most 2 weekends during the summer and one will be for the shower. So I''d really like to be there at least for the weekend before the wedding. I''m thinking of just taking the week before the wedding off, just to relax and primp.

Are you taking any time off? If so, how long?

My recently married best friend was only able to take the day of her rehearsal off (only time she was able to take before or after her wedding) because of her profession. Not having the time to prepare- mentally, physically, emotionally- really took its toll. When were were rushing to squeeze in mani/pedis an hour before the rehearsal, she had a mini-breakdown. I learned from this experience that it''s ideal to take at least a few days off to ready yourself. For my own wedding on a Sat in August, I''ll be taking of Wed-Fri (of course, I''ll be taking a three week honeymoon immediatley following the wedding too). I think it''s best. Besides, as my understanding boss said, " your mind is going to be on the wedding, you''ll be no use here!!!" Will you really be able to do your best at work and, at the same time, really enjoy the whole experience of your wedding if you work up until the big event?!?

I have rather generous holiday allowance being in the UK - 25 days plus all statutory days and an extra 'gift from the company' week at Christmas. I also work 2 weekends a year and gain another 4 days that way. I rarely manage to use all my holiday in the year and so I have only just finished up last year's allowance.

So, I'm taking a week off before the wedding plus the week afterwards and two weeks in October for our honeymoon.

i too am taking off wed-fri before my saturday wedding. i figure there will also be family and friends here from out of town so this way i can spend some time with them and not feel rushed. but my work has a nice vacation setup plus i purchased some extra days during open enrollment due to the wedding and honeymoon so that i could take whatever time off that i wanted.

we aren''t going on honeymoon until several months after so wanted to feel like we had a mini vacation around the actual wedding time.

When are you going on your honeymoon, Basil?

I''m a teacher so I''ll have the summer off anyway -- our wedding''s in July. My FI is taking the Thursday and Friday off before our Saturday wedding, and he''s also taking the week off after the wedding so we can go on our honeymoon. There''s a possibility he''ll take an additional few days off after we return but we''re not sure yet.

If I were in a different position, I''d try to take at least a few days (or the week off) before the wedding if at all possible.

i wish i could take that week off, but it''s the week of finals

i am just hoping that i don''t have any finals that friday! (which we totally did last year....)

but luckily i''ve never stressed much about school and my mom will be taking the week off so hopefully it won''t be too too busy!

We''re going on our honeymoon the week after, so I''d be taking off two weeks total. We get 4 weeks of vacation total for the year, so I''d be using up a big chunk of it, and I''d likely only have one week left after the holidays. I think ideally I would take off Wed-Fri the week before, but since I live out of town, it doesn''t make sense to buy a $300 plane ticket to come back to work for 2 days, then leave again (I really want to be there the weekend before).

Pandora and Zoe - I''m jealous that you get so much more vacation than me! I love my job, I just wish I could do it a little less often.

Mimzy - I hope you don''t have any finals the day before your wedding!

I''m hoping I''ll be able to take Thursday and Friday. Friday for sure since it''s a morning wedding on Saturday, but I''m not sure I''ll be able to take Thursday.

Our wedding was a destination wedding. We left on a Wednesday and came back on a Monday. I took the two days before we left off and two days after we came back. This week is my first real week back and...let''s just say, I''m feeling it. If you don''t think you need tons of time the week before, I''d definitely recommend maybe taking the Monday or Tuesday off after your wedding if you aren''t immediately leaving on your honeymoon. Because of work committments, I had to come back to work.

My wedding is on a Thursday and I''m finishing up in work the friday beforehand.

I think it''s worth it to take the time off. I am a teacher and get out of school for summer break one week before my wedding so I am lucky. My FI originally wanted to have the wedding the day after my last day of school. He said, "what do you really need to do the last week of school that is so time consuming?" AH! Um, grades, grade books, lesson plans, packing up a whole classroom, IEPs, blue books... His mom, sister and my mom are all teachers so I won that battle. ;)

My wedding is on a Saturday - I''ll be taking off the Wednesday prior to the wedding and remaining on vacation through our honeymoon, when we arrive back two Monday''s later, and I''ll be taking that Tuesday off to recover from traveling ...

All in all, I''ll be taking off exactly 10 days.
