Hello Everyone, I am trying to figure out what this diamond is worth and whether we did the right thing. My wife and I were at a investment conference a while ago and they really pushed that fact that hard assets were important. We did what we normally don''t do and jumped into this with out due dilegence. This is what we have. Any help on approx. value would be great. The diamond supplier that sold it to us is currently holding it in there vault. I guess it would be better for us to hold it right.

Argyle Inscription: 317267
GIA Report: Colour: 6P Natural Fancy Orangy Pink
Emerald Cut: 5.28 x 4.07 x 3.17MM
0.67 carats
Clarity: SI2

You would probably get more responses by posting in Rocky Talk. There is an abundance of knowledge on this board, but most diamond questions are answered over there.

Hi reyl,

I''m sorry to say this, but diamonds r not really "investments", especially in that size and clarity. You can only hope to get back half ur money when u try reselling a diamond.

Diamonds are not investment - even a well researched stone will rarely be sold for more than 50-60% of the original price (and an appraisal usually shows how much a person would pay in the retail market, not how much a lay person will bea ble to sell it for).

This article is rather old, but quite interesting and much is still true: Have You Ever Tried to Sell a Diamond?

Why is the diamond in the seller''s vault? At least have it set and enjoy the stone! Don''t believe the "if you take it out it will lose value" spiel. It has already lost value when you bought it, unless you have it in writing that the seller will buy it back (I doubt any would do that).

An SI2 in an emerald cut is also not a good idea as they show inclusions far more than other cuts.

Fascinating article by the way Lady D!

Does the colour mask the inclusions?

I am a complete coloured diamond addict and I''d certainly get it out of the vault and set into a piece of jewellery so you can both enjoy your special piece.

Do you photos you can share?

I got approached about a similar plan from a firm in Switzerland. I felt uncomfortable with the idea on a number of levels. It sounds like the same group. I was approached out of the blue though, I did not attend a conference.

What are these investment conferences please? I''ve never heard of them.

Here is a similar diamond, clarity, size, color, different shape for $9,250. Heart

Not an investment unfortunately...I''d say get it out of the vault and enjoy it for what it is in a piece of jewelry...

Only "named" diamonds of huge sizes are really investments...and we are talking millions and millions of dollars here...
