Well I finally bought a ring and it is being made by WF as I write this! Hope to get it in a week or so and propose soon thereafter.

I know I have to ask her father (and would even if it wasn''t hinted that I should). Problem is, he lives an hour or so away so I can''t just "pop over."

I was thinking of just calling him on his cell as my FI''s stepmom would spill the beans. Question is, what should I suggest that wouldn''t seem out of the ordinary? I''m thinking taking a day off and playing golf would be a good bet but FI is a teacher so would try to tag along as she doesn''t have work. How do I get him alone?? Would a lunch meeting work? I''m not even sure if his office gives lunch hours as they have an on-site cafeteria.

Help!

First of all, congratulations!! What an exciting time for you!!

I think the idea of going for golf is a great one if you can get him there alone. Maybe you can do the pitch of wanting to “bond” with dad? If not, then a lunch would be appropriate. I can say with certainty that they give him his lunch hour even with the on-site cafeteria (we have one as well but we still get an hour).

I think I would just call and tell him you had something important you need to discuss with him in private, and suggest lunch. He''ll get the message

Agreed... he probably gets a lunch break.

If he can leave the office, take him somewhere close.

You can tell your lady that you''re meeting a friend/business partner/brother/cousin/etc. for lunch so she doesn''t ask to tag along.

Good luck! Congratulations!

I''d vote for golf, only because in some careers, it''s hard to say what each day will be like and if something will come up and you have to work through lunch. It''s the kind of thing that shouldn''t be rushed. Just my 0.02! Good luck, and congratulations!
