I’ve been lurking here for months in preparation for buying an engagement ring, and want to thank everyone for their posts – they helped me so much to become an educated diamond shopper. I hope my story helps someone out there the way others'' stories helped me.
I went to ID Jewelry based on reviews I read here and the fact that they are a Vatche dealer, and was looking for an asscher in the 1 carat range. I dealt with Yekutiel and his wife, Tammy, both of whom were very helpful and patient with me. Yekutiel said he would meet or beat Pricescope prices, and told me to email him a list of diamonds I want to see and he will get them for me. I emailed him a list and came back to see the diamonds, and repeated this probably 3-5 times as I was picky and realized quickly how different asschers can look from one another. Yekutiel was patient each and every time and never put any pressure on me to settle for a stone I didn’t love. Finally, after helping me narrow down the qualities of an asscher I like (depth % in the high 60s, very square, cut-cornered square step cut, etc.), we found an asscher that looked great and had more kick to it than any other asscher I had seen.
I took the stone to Mark Bunda, which Yekutiel had no problem with. Mark was very patient, verified the certificate, went over the ideal depth and table percentages, and said it was a nice looking stone. Mark also appraised the ring after the stone was set.
I went back to Yekutiel and completed the deal for the stone and the Vatche Royal X Prong setting with a narrower band of 2.4 mm (I told Yekutiel and Chris from Vatche, who was also a pleasure to work with, I wanted a narrower band and that is the width they suggested). The ring was complete 8 days later.
The finished product was beautiful. When I proposed to my girlfriend on vacation two weeks later, she absolutely loved it and said it fit her personality perfectly and that she couldn’t have found such a perfect ring if she picked out her own ring.
All in all, I think I got a great deal on a quality ring, and I would definitely recommend ID Jewelry, Vatche, and Mark Bunda.
