Asscher settings that don't use prongs on corners or a bezel?

Hi PSers! I'm still hunting for an Asscher but while trying to find the stone that is just right to me, I've begun to ponder settings.

One thing I really would like is a setting that will show off the cut corners of an Asscher.

I noticed online that many settings use prongs on the 4 corners and that hides those lovely slanted corners. One solution is a bezel, but I wondered if anyone had other ideas? e.g. can prongs go on the long sides of the stone and if yes, would that look weird?

I've saved a lot of photos from various places over my years of browsing on here, and online generally.

So far, this setting (hope the photos attach clearly) is the only one I've found that doesn't have the prongs or bezel. I love the way it looks from the top but am not sure how I feel about all that pave on the sides... I do not even know what this style of setting is called and is it hard to make? Is it secure?

Thanks for any insight or advice!

I'd comb through Lang Antiques, and broaden the scope to get inspiration for non-asscher rings.

I think this orientation of prongs would be killer on an asscher, as would the whole setting design...(terrible screenshot - click the link to see a video!)

@Cerulean Thanks - that is a stunning setting - I have never seen that style but it is the idea I was aiming for when I asked about positioning the prongs differently! Thank you so much. I will check out Lang, too!

Bar prongs on each side of the stone?

DK :))

Thanks, DK, I will look into that option, too - don't think I've ever seen that.

If it won't damage the stone, I would like to have as little metal as possible, which is why the photo I posted appealed to me - it looks as though the diamond is fully exposed in all its glory. :-)

Yes! My jeweller is all about stone protection and loves a bar prong. You can run it along the corner and it really accentuates the cut.

Here is a pic that I could find on the web for bar prongs on the sides of this baguette cut Aqua, hope this helps.

Thanks, DK, that is lovely and has a very art deco feel to it

I'm also contemplating either a compass setting or bar prongs as I love the flashes of colour that corners give off. My thread is here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/compass-setting-for-step-cuts-yay-or-nay.261076/

There are many gorgeous compass settings but my main concern is any reflections of the prongs/bars bouncing off the steps. Jury seems to be out but if you have a skilled jeweller that can set the prongs and bars right, there shouldn't be a lot of reflection.

Monipod, thanks so much - that is a very helpful thread, and it links to another helpful thread... and it is interesting to see how many people mention how long the search for the right Asscher takes!

This is gorgeous and innovative; I hope you went with it!
