Do asschers have a tendency to reflect or be sensitive to surrounding colors? In other words and for example, is it normal for you to see the color of an adjacent wall in an asscher or would seeing the color of any surrounding wall, or ceiling for that matter, be an indication of a poor cut? I have seen asschers reflect black of a black ceiling and blue from a blue wall and black of a black shirt. Is it ok to see this or should this not happen? Would an excellent cut asscher still do this? I'm wondering if step cuts in general do this normally since they have more mirror like facets.

Yes they give you a tour of your environment.
They draw light from a wide range of angles both primary and secondary light paths.
Plus they have many very large virtual facets to showcase it.

So if the stone falls into an excellent cut category with excellent symmetry and polish and I see this phenomenon there's no need to worry, correct? I only ask because I have seen one in particular having been in the excellent cut category reflect especially black from a shirt this way which was sort of in the shape of four triangles and was worried they were a type of asscher bow tie eventhough asschers shouldn't have this. I was concerned it was not cut well and that someone may have been fibbing, lol. Stone was also very clean with loupe eventhough it was an SI1 and I color.

They can over react to obstruction if not properly cut.
They draw light to much from one place.
There are many badly cut ones out there.
Who rated it excellent? Many websites ratings are bogus.
Post a link to vids.
Triangles can be perfectly normal and fine.

Thanks. I'll see if I can find that.

What would you say over reaction to obstruction looks like compared to normal reaction to obstruction? Do you have examples by any chance?

Ideally, small areas of obstruction are there to provide contrast and goes away with the slightest tilt. The facets should flash on/off when the stone is in motion. It’s similar to how arrows work in a H&A cut.

Here’s a nicely cut asscher next to a H&A round for comparison. Based on how dark the arrows get I think I was wearing a black shirt.

Thank you.

Do you happen to have video of over obstruction?

The one on the left.

The one on the left.

Thanks. I have actually stumbled across this video and what I had seen is closer to what the diamond on the right does. There were four triangles instead of a ring in the middle of the stone. Is there a way to get in touch with the person who shot these videos?
