Hi Pricescopers,

I am looking for some guidance with a beautiful ring that is currently in my possesion. Not really sure where to even start but let's give this a go...

To make a long story short, after spesing some time to think a couple years ago, my ex-fiancee and I decided things would just simply not work out. I am now stuck with this precious ring and don't really know what to do or where to turn with it. I would like to find someone who would appreciate it just as much as I did.

Below are the details:

I have attached some picture of the ring and also the link to the original place where I purchased the stone.

Would you have any suggestions as to how I should go about selling it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
JEBM

I remember that ring extremely well. It is beautiful and should sell pretty easily to a PS member. You have a couple of options. One is to list it on Loupetroop.com and then post the listing here on the Pre-loved forum found under Forum/PS Cafe (giving the LT link and a picture). The safest and least expensive method is to do that, then when you have a buyer, you send the ring (USPS Registered Mail which is insured and very safe) and grading report to Neil Beaty (independent appraiser). The buyer will pay him an appraisal fee to be sure the ring is in good condition, etc. The buyer can then pay you directly or use Neil's escrow service and once payment is complete, Neil can send the buyer the ring (buyer will pay that shipping). I have bought through this method before, and it is worth a try before consigning which potentially will cost you more. Jewels by Grace is probably your best consignment option if you end up going that route.

A lot of us love that design and stone shape. You generally will lose some money selling second hand, but I think you will have bids on it.

I didn't know Neil would do that! Thanks DS for posting this information. Is the only charge for the appraisal?

OP - Beautiful ring! Good luck with the sale! I am sure it will sell quickly!

Yes, I paid for a basic appraisal (was under $100 at that time) and once I had paid the seller for the stone, I paid Neil for appraisal and shipping to me and he sent me the diamond. It is a great way to deal with buying and selling a more expensive item when the two parties do not know each other.

In JEBM's case, he is in NY according to his listing, so it would make more sense to use a NYC independent appraiser or jeweler so he doesn't have to ship his ring.

Hello Pricescopers!

I want to resurrect this thread. I have not put much effort into selling this 100%. I am now is desperate need to sell.

If anyone has any questions/interest, please let me know.

I would still explore the options DS laid out for you. Those would still be the ways to get the maximum dollars if you're willing to wait for the right buyer.

There's another option that might be a bit quicker, which is to find someone who is willing to unset it and list it on rapnet for you. Purely based on what you paid I'm guessing the wholesale price of that diamond is around 8-9k so when it's also said and done you could probably get 7-8 relatively quickly for the stone alone. The setting you'll probably need to sit on until the right buyer comes along and generally depreciation on settings is something like 50% or more.

Third option if you don't need the money right now and would give you the most value back is to just wait until you're engaged again and take advantage of JA's 2x upgrade policy.

This ring is consigned with Grace right now, correct? I've had it in my "wish list" for sometime. If you're willing to negotiate, let me know!

Hi jetmal,

Yes, the ring is currently with grace. I am very open to negotiation :)
