Our wedding photographer is travelling up to DC to take our engagement pics later this month. We are so excited (I have been planning outfits, etc.) but I''m now trying to think of some cool backdrops. We live in Georgetown so I thought it could be cool to have some pics of us strolling some of the cobblestone streets with all the gorgeous leafy trees and rowhouses. Also thought Roosevelt Island could be a great idea - I love it there, and it''s so peaceful.

But then I started to think that if he''s coming all the way to DC, maybe we should have some monuments as a backdrop? Maybe go to Iwo Jima for the view across town, or the steps of the Lincoln Memorial?

Sculpture gallery?

Basically I''d love any input or ideas ...

I think the idea of staying in Georgetown is really lovely, especially with all the side streets. What might be interesting is walking across Key Bridge (or even Memorial Bridge) towards DC so that you get the DC backdrop.

We're eloping, but having pictures taken of us around DC. We want to do some less "obvious" DC shots. I don't know if this is too far to travel, but the Air Force Memorial in Arlington has a LOVELY view of DC. It's perched a bit higher and you get a really nice shot of DC in the background, esp. if it is clear outside.

Good luck and let us know what you end up doing! I know that I can certainly use more ideas.

Thanks! After seeing PolkaDot''s photos, I think we will do Roosevelt Island and then go to the Jefferson Memorial just approaching sunset. But, we may do some photos on the walk along the Potomaco just past Roosevelt Island.

Also trying to think of some backup plans if it''s rainy ... I heard the indoor atrium at the new Portrait Gallery is amazing ...

I think Roosevelt Island sounds like so much fun! They will be gorgeous photos :) Maybe you will be able to catch some of the Cherry Blossoms? Or are they already gone?

Oooh, the portrait gallery atrium sounds lovely, too! Can''t wait to see yours.

Do you know if they allow professional pictures to be taken in the atrium? I hadn''t thought about that, and it''s a really good backup plan.

Ok - here''s the scoop on permits - they are required if you want to have any "commercial photography" on National Park Service grounds. This of course includes any of the monuments/memorials in DC, but also the GW Parkway (of which T. Roosevelt Island is considered a part). There is a $50 application fee and I am waiting to hear back what the additional charges will be, but I am told they are based on size of group and can be from $50 to $150. Here''s hoping they don''t totally go overboard in charging us!
