going to pick up my lunch today while on break, i was walking down the street and past a lil second hand jewelery place and something caught my eye and i stopped and turned around. I had gotten hit in the eye with a beam of light. In the window was a BEAUTIFUL fillagree ring. I tried it on and LOVE it, even tho its not at ALL what Ive been looking for. I was in a rush to get back to work and didnt have time to get a lot of pics or great pics. But I did get two. Please excuse the smudge marks etc on the stone, i didnt think to whipe them off since i was rushing. But I thought of you also while looking at this and thought youde appreciate it. Im waiting to hear from my SO about it...its a STEAL of a price

Thank you for posting this for me! I needed the eye candy today (staring at the computer in work, doing icky calculations all day!)

Just out of curiosity, how much are they asking?

It has an appraisail from a local jeweler of $5300 (its has no other stones besides the center) and the owner is sellin it for $2800. It was his wife's engagement ring and she recently passed away.

Only thing is its an Si3 clarity. But I honestly didnt see a thing with my eye, and I was looking REALLY hard! I just WISH i had taken the time to take BETTER and MORE pics of the detail etc...these do it NO justice!

That looks like a very pretty ring but please make sure it has a return policy because that price doesn't seem logical to me at all, especially given the recent rise in platinum and diamonds. 1.5ct. old cut (it's an old cut right?) that's an H color and even if it's an I1 (there's no such thing as SI3), the price seems off to me. Please get it appraised by an independent appraiser...If it is real, it's a very pretty ring! Would it be your ering?

Surfgirl,
The appraisal wasnt from the store that the ring is in. The owner of the store had taken the ring (which belonged to his wife who just passed away a few months ago, it was her engagement ring) to an appraiser in our area and had an appraisal drawn up for it. It stated the ct wt and the clarity etc on it and an appraisal value of $5300. The store where the ring is , is a little local secpnd hand store. Like a pawn shop I guess. It was run by this old gentleman and his wife. And no that his wife has passed, its just him. So when he gets new items in he has them appraised and then makes a price from there. And it would be for an ering. Im just not certain if i''d keep it in the setting or if id rest the stone and put a sapphire in the filigree setting and use it as a RHR. But it all depends on what my SO says about it too.

Sapphire, again, get it appraised yourself, by an independent appraiser who knows old stones/rings. You should NEVER go by an appraisal that the owner shows you as you have no way of knowing if it''s overly inflated or not. Sadly, most appraisers seem to over inflate appraisals and make people think "Oh wow, I''ve got such a deal!" There aren''t really many deals as every seller is making money on sales. Otherwise they''d be out of business. Also, the first photo makes me nervous only because the color of the stone against the plat setting seems odd...and again, the price seems silly for a 1.5ct. diamond, old, new of any quality. So again, please dont rely on the seller''s appraisal from his appraiser, get your own and make sure the ring has a return policy. Hope it works out but personally, I''d keep it in that setting as it''s really lovely!

Just letting you know, its a 1.25ct not that thats much of a differance and the setting is white gold not Plat. Anyway, Im gunna try to get better pics of it today, better angles and such. Its funny...I sent my Mom to see it yesterday (she works with me) and she said it was VERY pretty but to HER it didnt look like an engagement ring. She said that because there is little metal surrounding the stone it didnt seem like an engagement ring to her. I giggled to myself and thought 'hmmn whats a solitare then?' lol

Hey..doesn''t matter on the WG or 1.25, it''s still way underpriced if it''s a nice, real stone, that''s all I''m trying to get at. Your mom''s comment is interesting because back in the day it WAS an ering! I think it looks very much like an ering - a vintage ering...Pretty!

surfgirl...i know what you were getting at and i appreciate it. Thats why when i stated the size of the stone i said ''not that it makes a differance'' and your concern is appreciated trust me. I took some more pics today and i will post them in a min. I just wish i could get GOOD pics. these dont do it justice at all. the lighting in the shop isnt that great so the ring looks kinda dull in these pics...BUT MAN OH MAN when its sitting in the front window under the lights and the sun hitting it...its BREATH TAKING! anyway...heres the shots.. sorry for the multipal posts. cant figure out how to do more then one at a time

I didnt mean to tease you Sandia I SWARE! LOL anyway...i am SO in LOVE with this ring its REDICULOUS how I went from a 3 stone diamond and sapphire ring to an antique solitare lol. The ONLY thing on my side atm for this ring still being at the shop is that the place is only open til 330pm. So MOST people are working then. So HOPEFULLY it will still be there when SO comes home Tues nite and he PROMISED to make time to get there to loko at it. Ultimatly he has final say and wants the ring to be a suprise. So even if he gets it, he WONT tell me! Some nerve! LOL. Anyway...i just wish these pics were vlearer and really showed the brilliance and shine of the stone. But i DID take 2 pics today of it in the window and the stone naturally is WHITE cuz its better lighting then the store lol. so here ya go...OH congrats on the find on ebay...cant wait to see hand pics

It is a beautiful ring, but you shouldn''t just appraise it yourself or trust any other appraisal than one you would get from an INDEPENDENT appraiser. While you may love it, you want to make sure that it is what they say it is. It is way under priced and you should take Surfgirl''s advice and take it somewhere to be evaluated. You need to do this so you can be sure that it is what they say it is in the color and clarity, that it is a diamond, that it hasn''t been clarity treated, and that there aren''t any damages to it that may compromise the structural integrity of the ring. While it''s a great price and you may not be interested in the color or clarity of the diamond, you do need to protect yourself. your SO be spending quite a bit of money and you could potentially be wearing it for a lifetime so get it checked out that you''re getting what you paid for!
