So I've been looking for an inexpensive OEC bezel pendant but I'm usually too slow on the preloved stuff or it's not quite a match. I've also been wanting to get some ebay experience. I've never bought off ebay until now. Perhaps trying to combine inexpensive OEC with first time ebay buyer is a bad idea but I pulled the trigger. I found a little OEC ring, no papers, just more of a shot in the dark. Good news is it wasn't a whole bunch of money and I can return it.

Moving on, this OEC is small, about 4.1mm. I'm thinking of putting it in a yg bezel pendant. Probably something from stuller, being budget minded and all. However before I pull the plug, can I get some of you to weigh in on it? Specifically, is this little guy much too small for a pendant? I'm hoping he'll look a bit bigger once those giant prongs are gone. I'm still assessing performance, I'm finding it harder because of the prongs and the stone is so little to begin with. I have to say the stone appears quite white ( not that you can tell from my pictures which are yellowy).

The first pic is a vendor pic, the second and third are my terrible RL shots.

General thoughts are helpful too. Criticism is good, I can take it.

Eta: the vendor said the stone was old miners cut however to me it looks OEC all the way. Thoughts?

First, price?

Second, have you confirmed the millimeter diameter for yourself?

Cut looks fine, but with small stones like that I persoanlly like to just use my own eyes to judge -- does it look bright and nice and white in person?

nice find!!

(I actually like the setting it is in now)

advice wise - ditto what Dreamer said - I have a couple of small OECs bezel set into a ring and they certainly do sparkle quite well

IMO this one is a good size for a little bezel pendant - as once set it would be around 5mm (depending on the bezel type you choose)

one thing you may not be able to see are any so called 'flee bites' that seem to be common to older cuts under those prongs - but as you are looking to bezel this one - that should not be an issue

many people here have used DanielM on etsy - perhaps look into him as an option for setting the stone too??

I've always found OECs to look larger than MRBs in smaller sizes - I guess the way they handle light, in big, bold flashes, makes more of a statement to my eyes. I don't think this stone will be too small for a pendant, and looks lovely to me.

Price was just over 300.

Yes, I have confirmed the millimetre diameter for myself.

To me, it looks really surprisingly white and bright. I'm shocked actually. Too bad my pics don't convey it.

Nice find!! I really like it in that setting... maybe you keep the ring and find ANOTHER OEC for a pendant??? :Up_to_something: Just sayin'!!!

Nice find! I just bought a small 5mm OEC that is so bright I cant believe it. I also want to put it in a pendant.

How big are you? I'm 5'8" 130lbs and thinking the 5mm OEC is going to look small on my neck. I was even thinking
double bezel to give it a little more size but I dont want the stone to disappear in the setting so I'm having the same
problem you are.

Enough about me...I'm having problems telling anything about the stone from your pictures. If you think it is a bright
and sparkley stone then it should be an eye-catcher. I also like the setting it came in. You dont want to wear it as
a ring?

Do you like specifically old cut for your pendant project? Because I also learn a lot on these boards about old cuts and heard that they usually cost far less than MRB super ideals...300 seems a bit too much, no? For a bit of 300 one can get H&A with cert and upgrade policy, and and..of course, you have a mount with it..do you have plans for it?

Sounds like a keeper, especially if you sell or repurpose the mount in some way.

You have to factor in the mount. Even if she scraps it she will likely get about $100, and I think it is nice enough to sell, maybe for $150. Then the diamond was only $180 (say).

Hmm I see Enerchi will enable me if I decide to go bigger...

Efriede - Yes, I definitely want an old cut diamond - I'm not very interested in RBs. I did a quick search for an RB similar size on the PS diamond search - most RBs of that size come in at over $400, assuming you want something better than a fair/very good cut.

tyty - Actually I"m almost the same size as you! I'm concerned that the stone will be dwarfed by me....le sigh.

Settings I'm considering (keep in mind, I'm super budget conscious) are all from Stuller - I'll check out Daniel M too.

I like the last bezel pendant, with the filigree on the sides, if you are sticking with a pendant. If you are going to leave the ring as is and enjoy it, AND get a new OEC (... maybe a larger OEC??? :Up_to_something: ) then the 2nd option with the 2 tone gold and the 2 bezels would be my next choice!

Hmmm... I think you'd be a far better person if you kept this and got another one for a pendant! tee hee!! ;))

Maccers I will be curious how you set this. I am in a similar pickle in that I have an OEC that I think will be too small looking if set in a simple mount, but cannot afford a larger stone at present. I am stuck in analysis paralysis.

This is a mount I am considering. Lots of PSers have it. It will be more bulky than a hand madem mount.

It is very reasonable. If you want a ballpark on prices, multiply the DWT by about $100 for these all metal stuller mounts. That is about equal to the quotes I have been getting. Setting would be on top of that of course!

Should I be embarassed that I don't know what DWT is?

All these options are hurting my brain too. I'm definitely questioning the 0.25c size now. I'm surprised that so many people like the original ring setting, all I see is prongs!

DWT= pennyweight (20 DWT= one ounce)
