My boyfriend asked me what I want him to wear. I don't have any preference, other than no T-shirts!

I think he's a grown boy and he can figure it out, but I'm happy to give him ideas...except that I don't really have any.

A suit would be too much to wear for the beach, I think. Anyone do anything beachy, yet a little nicer than a button down and slacks? Maybe a lei for adornment? I just have no idea on what would look good. I thought maybe a hawaiian shirt, but is that too casual?

I LOVE the seersucker suits from J-Crew.

My husband wore a white button down shirt with the sleeves slightly rolled up, a nice pair of khaki slacks, and teva flip-flops. He looked great!

I LOVE the seersucker suits from J-Crew.
Tommy Hilfiger has nice ones too, very fine navy and white pattern....little bro wore one to the spring dance last year, looked cute!

we weren''t on the beach but right next to it on the lawn in front of the manager house, the guys wore a dark suit for the ceremony with a white shirt and a sage green tie and then after the ceremony, they changed and wore matching Tommy Bahama shirts that were a gift from Greg to the guys. much more fun for the reception!

It is a wedding, and if you are wearing a semi-formal or in any way near formal dress I think he should wear somekind of a suit. It could be a more casual suit. I haven''t seen the JCrew seersucker, but it sounds like it might work for casual. Are you going to be actually on the sand? If so, I think it will be awkward to wear shoes... So think about that too.

Yes, I will be on the sand for the ceremony, so no shoes! I''ll have to look at some of those suits...I have no idea what they are like....

I am wearing a dress...full length but not overly weddingly, if at all. Just a spagetti strap, flowy silk-chiffony kind of dress. Pretty simple.

Thanks ladies!

Sorry I am chiming in late! For our beach wedding, I am having my FI wear a suit and his tie will match the sash on my dress. If he had his way, he would wear an old t-shirt and shorts!

For a little bit of an ethnic touch, he could wear an embroidered Cuban shirt, also called a guayabera. There are informal ones in cotton, cotton/poly, and then some really nice pure linen. They can be either long or short sleeved, and some have cuffs so you can even wear cufflinks. A white or ivory shirt and black linen pants look very nice.

TravelingGal,

Being something of a stickler for tradition (no short wedding dresses or colored sashes for me

), my FI will be wearing a black suit, white shirt, black dress shoes, and either one of those shiny-looking ties in a soft blue color (think darkish aquamarine) or the same style of tie to match my flowers depending on what color they are.

It sounds like the suit isn''t really your preferred option; we did also consider beigey-colored suits (nixed b/c FI looks bad in beige), linen suits in many colors (nixed b/c too wrinkly and when would he ever wear it again?) as well as the guyabara look, but decided we were going to go formal and just sweat like pigs

My BIL and SIL got married in Greece. He is olive skinned and wore a white linen suit. He looked awesome!!!

We plan on getting married on a beach next summer and our groomsmen will be wearing these:

My groom to be will be wearing the same tux, but with white instead of that color.

Former Beach Groom here -

I went a little formal for the beach I guess - but not tuxedo or suit. A nice blue blazer, custom made light blue shirt with white collar/cuffs, silver tie, and grey lightweight wool slacks - and shoes. The investment was a good deal as I have worn this arrangement for other important social events.

also i wanted the guys to be in suits because the maids were in dresses just like a non-beach/grass wedding and i wanted the pictures to be all consistent for the formals and things like that. i know the guys were dying in the heat, but they loved that they could put on the Tommy shirts after and cool off!

I went to a wedding last weekend and the guys wore khaki suits and sage green ties and white shirts. it was at the Don Cesar, a famous beach hotel in St Pete, FL. It looked great. I think they were Khaki linen suits.

TravelingGal, my FI will be wearing a black linen/cotton blend suit from Baron Boutique, a white shirt (open collar, no tie) & will be barefoot for our beach wedding. I think he looks great in black & like the contrast between him in black & me in white. I imagine he''ll lose the coat after our 15 minute ceremony, but I thought a suit would look better in the photos than just a shirt. (A suit will also better match the formality of my dress.)

I''ve seen a lot of guayabera shirts for beach weddings & think they look nice, especially if the bride''s dress is less formal. Check out my groom''s attire thread--there are a lot of great suggestions here.

Brightspot, I totally missed your thread! How embarrassing that I pretty much asked the same question. Thanks!

And also thanks everyone for the suggestions...I like the guayabera idea. I guess he could wear a suit. It will be a morning in October here in California, so it shouldn''t be too hot/
