What are the things you HAVE to bring with you to the beach/pool? And be specific!

For me:
1. a good book (any new ones I should know about?)
2. a spray bottle filled with water because I over heat
3. sun screen

Is this like we are on a desert island?!

Seriously...

I agree with BOOK (I love Susan Isaacs, by the way...)
lipbalm/sunscreen
a hat!!! and a big uumbrella to sit under...
a cold drink (iced tea, peach mango flavor?)

A cabana boy, Lol!!!

sunglasses

hahaha...

in my bag when we are on vacation and we are poolbound:
--good book
--few good mags (us weekly, in touch, cosmo or instyle) in case i don't feel like getting into or reading an actual book
--8, 15, and 30 sunscreen for various parts of the body or for greg (he wears higher than me)
--a floppy hat
--sunglasses
--beach cover up or a skirt or wrap or something
--flip flops
--aloe vera lotion for when you start to feel too dry
--bottle of water
--ipod or similar for the tunes

then when we are there at the pool:
--a floaty because i just like to hang out
--many cool refreshing alcoholic drinks with umbrellas
--snacks or lunch or whatever (mmmmmm!!!)
--two towels for the pool chair (one never covers the whole thing!)

we're going back to the Parker Palm Springs this summer for Greg's bday, I CANT WAIT!!!!

haha, no desert island. You can bring as much as you want to carry. I just thought since the season is among us it might be fun to get ideas.

A cabana boy, club sandwich and pina colada... just kidding, things I need are:

Sunglasses
Water
A good book
Copies of Us, People, Star and any other fabulously bad magazine I can get my hands on, plus a copy of Vanity Fair.
Fruit
A hat
and preferably Hubby & Friends with me...

I am reading Any Place I hang my Hat, by Susan Isaacs, so far I am really enjoying it-

oh and for books i love the shopaholic series or devil wears prada or anything kind of fun and flirty and silly for poolside reading.

what are the good fun books out for now?? i need to stock up for the trip so i''m all ready. hehee.

Hehe!!! I second that!!! And a stiff margarita on the rocks!

Cash (for tips)
floppy straw hat (just got a great one from J.Crew--$40 well spent)
my own beach towel (I hate using the hotel ones, they''re too short to cover the chaise so I buy the super long ones)
a trashy novel (or I found a great "mini" book called "I love him but..." in a hotel we stayed at last fall. Those mini books are great for stashing the reads you don''t want your DH to see in the inner pocket of your tote, lol!)
sunblock, although I usually forget to use it because I don''t burn (sona medspa here I come for those age spot treatments, lol!)
a smallish towel for wiping my face or hands after remembering to apply sunblock
ziplock baggies for the sunblock or jewelry I''ve forgotten to take off before I leave the room
cellphone
some sort of cover-up besides a sarong--it seems whether we are on business or fun vacations we always end up having drinks inside at 3-4 o''clock with someone we''ve met or whoever DH brings in from the golf course...this year I''m getting the J.Crew hooded tunic.

Really now...My kids are 12, 10, and 3 so I bring sunscreen, toys, and towels. If I go to the pool, they always want to come!

Pottery Barn Kids has the cutest beach bags and coolers that I want to order. I always have drinks and snack, sunscreen, oversized beach towels, magazines and pool toys.

LOVE those books. In Antigua Ashley got me hooked on the Gossip Girl series, light and fun... I am seriously addicted now. SBT

If I am not on a getaway with Dh and no kiddies...

more sunscreen

pool toys

bottled water

water shoes

Tons of sunscreen
Sunglasses
Water
Towel
Tote
Several P.G. Wodehouse novels. British comedy that''s lighthearted enough for beach reading. Plus there''s no need to hide them from your hubby!

Gosh, I envy all you ladies who actually get to read by the pool. With a younger child, I never get to glance down at a book or a magazine. I''m always carefully watching my little darling to make sure he''s not drowing/running and about to slip/sipping other people''s drinks/stealing some other kid''s toys....

So, here''s the parent list:

enough towels for everyone in the family with some extras....each wrapped in a grocery bag to cut down on all of them getting wet at once

labeled drinks (each family member''s name on bottles with sharpie marker)--preferably water because it blends when dumped

sunglasses...and a spare inside a box so when my bag gets sat on I still have a pair

sunscreen--the kind in the spray bottle because it is much faster for getting on slippery kids

pool toys that never get used because they wind up playing with some other kids toys (see first paragraph about stealing)

kazoo for calling kids out of the pool--besides if you blow one loudly enough the pool gets really quiet and everyone stops moving so it is easier to spot YOUR kid. I used to use whistles, but the life guards frown on them!

And finally--a magazine with short stories because hope springs eternal that I might someday get to read at the pool again....
