Hi ladies,

All of these recent makeup-related threads have me thinking about my own makeup for my upcoming wedding in less than a month!
23.gif

For those of you who don''t know me, I''m getting married on the beach in Jamaica on April 29th. I''m very fair skinned with brown hair & blue eyes (and burn pretty easily) so I''d like to find a foundation that provides good coverage, that won''t make me break out, that I won''t sweat off in the heat & humidity of the tropics & that will procide good sun protection. (I know, it''s a tall order!) Any recommendations?

Also, any general recommendations for beach bride makeup? (eyemakeup, blush, bronzer, etc.) Any application techniques or products you''d recommend? I searched online & couldn''t find much. I''d like to stay on the more glamorous side of natural without looking overdone for the beach. The only thing I know so far is what lipstick I''ll be wearing. (wine colored Covergirl Colorstay)

Also, any good hair products to fight frizz in hot & humid climates?

Here''s my my Knot bio if you want to look at some of my wedding stuff (dress, jewelry, hair, etc.), a pic of me in my dress & a pic of me with a suntan (yes, I''m that pale!) showing how my hair reacts to the humidity so you have a sense of what I''ll be working with. Please disregard the funny face!

Thanks for your help!

I am not sure how much I can help...San Diego Lady is right about the "Best Foundations" thread. With your delicate and fair coloring, you want to be protected and glamorous, with protection being priority #1. I wouldn''t use a sunscreen less than 30 SPF on my skin if I were you. I am light olive complexioned and I was in the Caribbean in February and wore a 25 SPF most of the time and still tanned nicely without burning.

As for colorations...I would go with a cheek stain that won''t be cakey or mush as the temps soar. I would go for more of a polished look that includes a taupey color for all over your eyelids with a deep brownish eggplant like Sketch from MAC(obviously, you could go with whatever line or brand you want, just mentioning the coloration to shoot for)for the crease just enough to emphasize those amazing shaped eyes of yours. A good eye shadow primer would keep all of this in place despite the heat. I little liner and mascara and you are good to go!

Has any one ever told you that you look quite a bit like Mary Louise Parker, the actress? But I think you are prettier!

Besides being gorgeous you look amazing in the dress.

And can you tell me more about the pendant you're wearing in the right photo? God - I even sicken myself sometimes.
20.gif
But I like it!!!!! Is that wrong?!

ETA: And I think if you're going darker with lipstick I might keep the eye colors neutral/light/shimmery with some nice black/brown mascara to bring out the lashes!

I agree with FG about keeping your eyes simple and elegant. I heard Benetint is a good lip stain BTW. A beautiful pinkish champagne color for your eyes and a brown/black mascara is all you really need...

Brightspot,
San Diego Lady is absolutely right - you are gorgeous! (and have a teenie tiny waist

I think a protective foundation and sunscreen all-in-one is a tall order.
I'm very fairskinned as well, and super-duper sensitive w/ mild rosacea, sunscreen is very important to me.

DDF Daily Organic SPF - Suggested for people with very sensitive skin, very non-irritating, makeup goes over pretty easily. Very highly rated/recommended. (DDF Organic also comes in a SPF 30.) - which I'd recommend for people like us. : )

And then there is DDF Daily Matte SPF - I bought this one because sunscreen can make faces look a little greasy. I don't recommend it because it will make your eyes water and burn.

Neutrogena makes VERY good sunblock for sensitive skin also. I've used their sunblocks and liked them.
Here are a couple reviews for their highest rated type (according to makeup alley reviews:
Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 30 There is also a Ultra-Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 45

As far as a foundation that will stay put in the heat and humidity is concerned - I'd go for something sheer and light, you have beautiful skin to begin with. I really don't have *the recommendation for you* - foundations are SO personal, it's really hard to tell someone what will work for them.

Prescriptives makes nice foundation, maybe their traceless formula might work - it's very sheer and light.
I use their Virtual Skin foundation, and have for years, it's sheer - medium coverage.

Maybe you should try a mineral based makeup like Bare Essentuals, some really like it and some don't.
A little note about Bare Essentuals, it contains an ingredient Bismuth Oxychloride that can make sensitive skin itch!!! My sister uses Everyday Minerals, which doesn't contain Bismuth Oxychloride and doesn't make her itch - or break out. She loves it. I was really sceptical, I didn't think mineral foundation would stick or wear well - but it does. It also looks great. I'm thinking about switching. I would think a mineral foundation would wear well in heat and humidity - though I haven't tried it yet in heat and humidity.

As far as fighting frizz in heat and humidity -
My Sister and I are obsessed with Fresh Hair Cream in the summer months. I just love this stuff!!! It just kind of smooths things out without getting greasy. Reviews of Fresh Hair Cream.

One make-up question: Are your sure you want to wear such a heavy dark colored lipstick to your Jamaican beach wedding? How about something a little lighter, maybe a soft sheer blushy-rose?

Let us know what you're thinking.

Scintillating...

IMO, I think it would be nice if have your hair half up and half down in curly waives.

For makup, I would probably go with curled lashes and darkest black mascara to bring out your lashes, a nice brown eye shadow, bronzer with a bit of color on the cheeks, and a nice pinky/red lip.

Here is kind of what I had in mind for HAIR.

I am very fair and getting married on the beach as well. I spend a lot of time out in the sun but I dislike foundation b/c it can be very hard to find the right shade for pale/fair skin - - - also keep in mind that you don''t want something that is going to melt as soon as you step in the sun/heat.

Estee Lauder has a face tint that has SPF in it (also great for sensitive skin). If you really want a foundation then I would suggest buying a good cosmetic sunscreen to put under it that will not be heavy...Neutrogena has a good one that I use (http://www.neutrogena.com/ProductsDetails_329.asp).

In terms of good makeup application for when you''ll be outside...put a prep application of shadow on your eyes so you have a nice base...it will fight against the "creases" (http://www.clinique.com/templates/products/sp_shaded.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY4898&PRODUCT_ID=PROD562). I wouldn''t go with anything too shimmery in the way of shadow/blush for sake of your photos.

You are naturally very photogenic so I think if you just do some minimal cheeks/eyes with your deeper lip color you have shown in your photos, it will look fantastic!!

You are very pretty and I love your dress. I have no advice about makeup but like FireGoddess, I''d like to know about the pendant you''re wearing in the right photo on the boat.

Smile Lines and Wrinkles my A$$!

Thank you so much for all of your help & sweet compliments, ladies.

SDL, I don''t know why I didn''t search on "foundation"--the thread you suggested was very helpful.

I did a bit of playing around with makeup this weekend, but I couldn''t get a good picture to save my life. I did a brown line on my upper lids (I tried a liquid liner, but think this might look a bit severe so I might stick w/ a pencil), a light peach shadow on the entire lid area, a darker pink in the crease & a shimmery gold on the brow bone (in the style that you suggested, DeannaBana), waterproof mascara, and a blush/highlighter combo to highlight my cheek bones. I think it looked pretty & subtle, but I have no idea if it''s too much or too little for the beach.

I stopped in Sephora later in the day for a consultation on foundation. The lady liked what I did with my eyes & gave me a sample of Clinique''s superfit foundation to try in Shell. I like the coverage, but I think it''s too dark in color for my complexion.
8.gif
Maybe I should just stick to the foundation I''m using now. (Max factor''s lasting performance--I think it''s been discontinued...)

The Sephora lady said exactly what you did, Scintillating--that foundations & SPF don''t mesh well. A Clinique rep once told me that some sunscreens can make you look pasty in photos (I sure don''t need any help looking pasty!) so I''m a bit spooked about wearing it in the wedding photos. On the other hand, my pale skin sure needs protection... I was surfing the web today & found a product which looks interesting. It''s supposed to provide full spectrum SPF 30 coverage, absorb oil & not cause that white tint. Has anyone tried this: DERMAdoctor Body Guard Exquisitely Light SPF 30? It sure is a mouth full, but maybe it works?

The DDF daily matte sounds interesting as well. Just how bad was the burning, Scintillating?
32.gif
Perhaps the Neutrogena lotion is a better bet.

I tried the Bare Essentials makeup at Sephora over the weekend as well. I was amazed at how much coverage it provided for a powder-like substance. (I was skeptical too) Alas, it too was too dark for my skin. I think that was because the lady used medium instead of fair on me. FI said I looked nice, but like I had a tan... (You''re right, petunia--it''s so hard to find foundation in a good shade for pale skin!) Do you know if the Everyday Minerals is sold in stores, or only online?

The lip color I''m looking at is kind of a sheer wine color. I don''t think it''ll look too dark. That''s a good suggestion, FG, to keep the eye colors light/neutral to balance out the look.

Kaleidoscopic, I really, really love that model''s makeup!
30.gif
That''s actually the look I''m aspiring too, maybe with a bit less blush. I think her hair is beautiful too, but I''m afraid if I leave any of my hair down it''ll frizz up. (Plus, it''s going to be in the high 80''s so I thought it''d be cooler up.) But it looks really, really beautiful on her...

As for the pendants I''m wearing in the photo on the right, I''m actually wearing 2 necklaces. The shorter one is a bezel set diamond solitaire necklace & the longer one is a circle of life-type necklace. I wear the solitaire necklace every day, but sometimes layer it with another necklace for variety.

Mary Louise Parker, huh? Thanks!

LOL, Mine...you can''t see the smile lines when I''m smiling...

Brightspot,

Well, I have this super sunscreen, and I mean super as in will literally strip my nailpolish off my finger.
14.gif
It makes me look sick in all my photos, but I can''t NOT wear it because I blister in the sun for more than 5 minutes. It''s a special medical-use sunscreen, I heard they use it on skin cancer patients. I''m afraid of how it will look at my wedding too! I still don''t know if I can use foundation over it. I wish you luck, and you are stunning! I love your skin tone!! See? I totally have it worse skin-wise than you do!

I went back to read this BrightSpot - and I thought maybe a Parasol?
A wedding in Negril is a perfect excuse to carry a parasol : )

Any thoughts? Or better yet pics for us?

Scintillating...

I like the new clinique city block spf 40...works under makeup. Those mineral powder makeups like bare escentuals are great, natural looking and yet provide coverage and spf too. I would then do a blush that almost has a light sheer bronzy quality, and do a sheer shimmer wash on the eyes...keep lips soft but with some color, and use a gel liner so you do not get a line. Bottom line is if you are getting married in the bright sunlight you do not want to look too made up but you want your pictures not to make you look washed out. Brown/black mascara and maybe a dark bronze/brown liner (without any red in it) would also look pretty...lips I would do a stain with a shimmery gloss on to top, nothing too opaque and heavy...you are beautiful and I am sure you will look amazing...

PS I think the mineral powder make ups also hold up better in the heat and are not irritating or clogging...easy to apply and stay on. I also love some of the shimmer liners from Bobbi Brown, they are a gel like consistently and you use a fine brush...

Brightspot,

With your skin tone, try bare essentials fairly light. Medium is way too dark for you. I use the foundation and it is amazing! It photographs very well, and I get an incredible amount of comments about my "perfect skin" ( which I don''t have). I have reccommended it to so many clients...you will love it.

LOL, Scintillating....I actually just bought a parasol! I was in chinatown & found one for $4. I figured the wedding was indeed the perfect excuse to carry one (especially if I''m not wearing a tiara...) & it could keep the sun off my face between photos, etc. Here it is:

ps_paperwhite.jpg

I''ve had a pretty frustrating time w/ my skin lately. I was on a run of going to Sephora twice a week & got samples of lots of different kinds of makeup. I tried Clinique''s superfit (loved the coverage & feel, but it didn''t come in a shade pale enough for my complexion) & Bare Essentials (I tried it again in the fairly light color. It felt nice on, but didn''t wear well for me--it sunk into (or sat on top of?) my pores in a way that made them look really big...) I also started on a new face cream from my dermatologist which has made me alternately break out & be excessively dry. Ugh. I hope this clears up before I leave for Jamaica in a week!
32.gif

After all of this experimentation, I might just wind up using the same foundation I wear every day. (Max Factor''s lasting performance--I think it''s discontinued?
15.gif
) I''m still debating having the spa at the hotel do my makeup, but the unknown factor scares me.

I bought some of the Neutrogena dry touch sunblock but haven''t tried it yet. (I''m trying to lay off all of the new products for a while...)

Diamondfan, you''re right--I don''t want to look too made up or too washed out in the photos. Thanks for the tips (and the compliment

)

Tiffany, your skin looks gorgeous in the photos you posted in your dress thread. Maybe I''ll give Bare Essentials another try in the future, but I''m hesitant to make any more big changes with my skin so close to my wedding date.

Thanks so much for checking on me.

It''s coming down to the wire! I''ve been thinking about you a bunch!
It''s going to be lovely I''m sure!

Thanks, Tybee.

I''m feeling kinda nostalgic now. It sure has been fun sharing the planning process with you. I can''t wait to tell you all about how it goes.
